Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Does anyone know if promotions & advancements in Aero are held up?

I used to work there but still have friends there and I wonder if anyone is able to get any advancement or promotions in Aero anymore? I know some of them have been waiting for way too long. I heard they had been on the slug trail for a number of years and wondering if everyone was still being exploited in that way too? (along with every other way)

No promotions, almost everything is considered a lateral. Directors have no power or desire to push for their people.

Its just a sign of the bad economy, less demand, boom cycles over, not looking to expand to get market share, getting smaller, and looking for cheaper labor. Can mean outsource, H1B, temp workers, younger workers, fewer workers on a bonus plan. Can also mean promoting younger workers for reasons that may not seem justified, and maybe even if the younger worker didn't really want the job. I saw a few cases of this. So yes there are always going to be some promotions. Changes come fast, re-write the procedure for how things used to be done, update the HR policies. If the economy was doing well, things would seem a lot more normal, there wouldn't be the need for many of the cost cutting measures.

Still, you've got to give the OP credit. It's a sweet question, the kind that AiResearch people might have asked 50 years ago. A similar attitude was the norm then. Now it draws derision, sadly.

@jzt yea that might work but at the rate they're eliminating or debanding band 4 roles which are director level and below, the odds of this working are not good. The best path to a promotion is to leave HoneyHell altogether, honestly.

if you want to jump band 3 to band 4, all you have to do is resign. Declined the counter offer for 10% salary bump, and then when asked what it will take to retain you say you want band 4. Manager will have to go to HR, but this is the quickest way to move up in HON

Your mileage may vary, as this assumes you are someone they want to keep, but this happens quite often.

From the OP: An example trick. One of the things that happened at the site I was at, was an internally posted band 4 job req was applied for by multiple band 3 employees which was about the only way they'd ever get out of band 3 at that site, since the site was being especially screwed. Everyone who applied was interviewed, then when it was time to pull the trigger, it was announced the job req was demoted to a band 3 and band 3 pay. So everyone pulled out from consideration. As far as I know, the job was never filled (it figures, doesn't it?).

I guess there really isn't much of an advancement of career at Honeywell Aero unless you want to be a manager-assassin. I'm pretty glad to not be there anymore to see & smell the slow death.

To answer the actual question asked: yes, promotions do take place in the area where I'm employed.

I gave up on waiting and actively seeking to leave this sinking ship.

All open reqs have been put on hold. Any movements within the same band are now considered lateral movements! HR and HON can't make it any clearer; if you're still employed, leave on your own or we will disincentivize staying. HON is actively running AERO into the ground and will probably spinning it off or sell it piece by piece. It's not a good place to be right now. Or ever again.
