More store closings. So where are the students suppose to get the books? Maybe the DLC?, Nope thats closing also. Yep they will be serviced by other stores. With the added workload of orders from online previously handled by DLC and closing stores we will see wage increases and additional personnel hired. Nice dream until the reality of the situation hits that it is a nightmare. Upper mngt. has no answers, just handle it.

This site says this about itself "News, personal experiences, rumors and speculations about layoffs at your company". You expect something other than this? Stir up some more toxic work for other to do.
Store closing and dlc closing will involve many layoff and jobs lost, so that was a valid post.
Closing stores is expected. Scr3wing employees over is not.
Good explanation of considerations that go into closing a store.
You lecture stinks. It's misplaced. It's demonstrative of your tin ear. It's typical of follett, today, however.
It's not a matter of the school (In many instances) reevaluating their bookstore operations at year end as most Follet and Barnes and Noble contracts end around that same time. It's a matter of Follett reevaluating the contracts and strategically closing some for being not profitable to maintain due to decreasing enrollments in many 2 year schools and lackluster sales (typically brought on by faculty and administrations recommending other outlets for their students to get their materials for school). The recent set of stores that were closing along with the Distance Learning Center (DLC) were strategic and a contract renegotiation. These students from the Ivy Tech group of stores will get their books online, just as they do today, from efolltt and they will now be distributed through the DLC outside of Washington, D.C.. This is the same DLC that handles schools like American University and others today. It's a consolidation of the DLC's.
I thought that this site was to help others to navigate around potential layoffs. Instead, the Follett people (both current and alumni) seem to like to think of this site as a good place to spread rumors, lies, and toss in a touch of fear mongering. I've been with Follett for a little less than 10 years (5 in store, 4 Home Office) but what I see happening is just good business practices. If you're not happy, move on with a new employer. If you're a previous employee that was downsized, move on and use the tools that were provided to you at that time. LIfe is too short to harbor so much animosity toward someone or any company.
What's a DLC?
Bring it on! No asm, no text mgr, no gm, only part time limited hrs for store staff, and very limited store space. We will do it! Don't forget to send more hoodies for summer and Kate spade amung other gm items that don't sell. Maybe we will receive a zero raise also. Awesome place😢
It doesn't surprise me one bit about more stores closing and I'd expect more to follow as Colleges and Universities reevaluate their bookstores heading into the end of their fiscal year. I left Follett after a long career and joined an Auxiliary Services Department a few years back when all the MLS mess started and it has turned out to be a good thing. It's about serving the students first and foremost and I appreciate that each day. Look for opportunities with a school run store or wait long enough and your school may go back to self op because Barnes isn't an option for a lot of schools either. Those in the decision making at colleges talk to each other and are very aware of Follett and Barnes financial situation, leadership direction, the way they are treating their people and so forth. Follett and Barnes like to sell the fact that colleges can't survive without them but there are trained folks and some seriously powerful Course Materials and POS software options out there that make Course Tracks look silly at times. I still laugh at how I use to have to run an excel NFDR macro on an advanced software like CT to see what has sold when other software lets the store staff see it by running a simple report in 3 seconds flat.
Silly post. They get their books online from any one of many online sellers. That's why follett is failing. Somehow they didn't see that coming.
