Looks like oil and gas interest will continue to decline in the future.

China is pushing big time for electrics, we will have no options but to follow.

Electric cars only a fashionable thing to do for the green movement. They may compete with hydrogen powered cars at some point in the future but they will lose to cheap oil in the near future. If electric cars do actually start to take a percentage of the cars on the roads then expect the states to start imposing some additional taxes on you to make up for the highway tax on gasoline that are lost. If electric car owners are required to record their mileage and send in comparable road tax to the state there may be a revolt. Road tax is a sizable amount of the cost per gallon of gasoline and a sizable chunk of every state's budget. Of course we also need to remember Federal road tax applied to gasoline that electric cars will have to begin to pay. Remove the subsidies and make them pay the road taxes and see how they do.
I would def leave Oil and go work for tesla no questions asked.
Next car will be electric. Why would I want to go to a gas station when I can do it from home.
I am sticking with gasoline for the next 2 cars...when these cars wear out in 10 or 12 years. Then, I'll take a look and see if electric cars are worth the money. Unfortunately a 4 year old Tesla, is like a 4 year old i phone (technology obsolescence is a big risk with buying a Tesla). It is not clear to me whether a used Tesla has any resale value, just like a used iphone
@NMsOKNm-aht - Better hope you never need the engine in your Volt with 3 year old oil and gas to kick in or your brake pads/rotors with ~45,000 miles to stop you in a panic.

My first post here - I have a Volt, needed access for HOV lanes and that was the ONLY driver for my purchase. Environmental issues had no influence on my purchase, as a matter of fact I could not care less about all that hoopla...
So, bought it in 2014. Prior to this owned a Subaru Outback, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series... Loved ever single one... Yet, I would NEVER EVER go back to owning a gas powered car, the difference is so stark and the feeling is so liberating (no oil changes, no gas, no brake replacements, etc.)
Finally, in 2014 folks looked at me as if I was nuts - they almost had a 'I am sorry feeling' when they would realize that I owned a Volt. Over last three years things have radically changed for number of reasons (EV prices are dropping, range is increasing, charging stations are being built, and more folks are driving EVs) - today, I'd probably say that at least a half of my friends had a lengthy and inquisitive discussions with me on ROI, pros and cons, etc. Some of them ended up buying EVs, some of them were not ready.
I am not sure if my experience means anything but I cents to throw in my 2 cents in here anyway... I think the EV age is coming, it may take many decades before we get there though.

I'm interested too! How much does the vehicle cost, and what energy source will be used to generate the electricity for charging it? What will the cost be on the electricity, especially since we have little spare generating capacity in the U.S.?
