As one of the networking unfortunates who did not get an offer from Extreme, I can only say that it's a pitty that the leadership of BOTH companies didn't have the freaking common sense to look beyond a person's job title and location before making their decisions. Wouldn't it have made sense to vett potential employees by reviewing their experience and skills? It's clear that this was not done, as there are a number of highly skilled people who aren't going over. Just further evidence of Avaya's failed leadership and sadly, it points to more of the same at Extreme. It's a short term setback for me, but in the end I'm going to be better off. Good bye s---ers.

It's unfortunate, but we all knew from the beginning that Extreme was only interested in picking up 1 or 2 Networking products in order to enhance their portfolio. They didn't do this to acquire an entire Networking business, nor did they do it to acquire more people. Same with the Brocade purchase. Once the dust settles and the products are integrated, the majority of the individuals recently brought on board will also be let go.
The unfortunate fee have become the fortunate few
Their business model seems mediocre at best, Cisco must be licking their lips. All Avaya customers are ripe for the picking because Extreme doesn't seem to have a strategy to serve them.
Good luck to the guys going across
HR told 500 selected and offerred from Avaya side, Extreme picked up 400. Support ppl are out of scope globally.
When Extreme acquired Enterasys almost four years ago, they practically brought over everyone. But it was the same BS. The good people started to leave because the incompetent leaders (of both Enterasys and Extreme) played political games rather than defining a vision or actually succeeding at gaining market share. I'm sure it will be more of the same this go around. There were 2 sets of sales teams and after a few quarters, whichever team had better numbers stayed, and the under performing team was let go. I'd bet these (including the upcoming Brocade acquisition) integrations go equally as poor. For those moving over to Extreme, I'd keep your resume handy and continue looking because all the problems you've experienced at Avaya will continue, but with different names and faces (or also probably some of the same names and faces).
One of the criteria Extreme may have used is who is cheap to lay off as they had to take a certain number of staff from the terms of the acquisition. If they take people in France, Germany or Australia they want to keep them, if mostly US maybe not so much.
I've never experienced a more irresponsible, disrespectful treatment of people as Avaya and Extreme are doing now. It is very clear that there has been absolutely no vetting of anyone coming over. Decisions were made based on location and current job title (and probably some personal/political motivation) with no regard to skills, experience, or capabilities. People are now being called by Extreme and asked what they do for Avaya. Seriously? Wouldn't it have made more sense to learn about the people they're hiring? What a bunch of morons. It's obvious that they see the Avaya people as disposable and have no intention of keeping them. I believe that most of the transferred people will be eliminated within the next 3-6 months. It's inevitable - you can't just stuff people randomly into jobs and expect them to succeed. This will be an epic fail from the employee's perspective, but I would argue that it's by design. Extreme had no intention of keeping a bunch of Avaya people - they just wanted the customers and maybe some parts of the technology. I'm disgusted by the process and while I guess it's good to have a job, most of us are considering this VERY short term and are using the next few months to find something better. What a joke.
It is extremely illogical ( pardon the pun) the way the selection is being made as to who goes and who stays. There is no method to the madness. People are being selected based on their location than in skill and experience. In certain places they haven't hired a single sales engineer and instead taken only sales personnel.
The people who have been given an offer apparently cant reject the offer. If they do it amounts to a resignation from Avaya.
This has got to be the worst treatment meted out to Avaya networking employees. They have been dragged under the bus.
Only employees in Europe enjoy any sort of protection because of strict labor laws..
This could have been handled much better.
I have skills in cc/uc and managed to find another role but for those who didn't I feel sorry because they were some brilliant engineers who were working on solid deals whove got the wrong end of the stick..
Let's face it networking failed. We had all those people recruited and yet the numbers still dropped. Goodbye and good riddance.
So how were the offers
"It seems to me that only those that did not receive offers are whining that the wrong people got selected" Well Duh
Those not transferring to Extreme will be about 115 people, of which about 30% will maintain employment with Avaya - from what I've heard
Reality is you are seen as a failure in extreme'S EYES.. They will only hold you till transition is complete and f--- you on the sh-- pile then.. Better take the package..
It seems to me that only those that did not receive offers are whining that the wrong people got selected
It's good to be on the CC side
Is that 200 gone, how many does that leave (similar number?). If the wrong people are not getting offers it is just the latest example of how poor Networking leadership was.
seriously? 200 people in networking? That really s---s and is total BS.
whats this BS ......
Seems this impact is on over 200 ppl its a sad thing - large corporations and ppl in leadership positions simply do not care
Yes. It's based on position. I think the basic is 4 weeks. Directors 6 weeks.
Are they offering a severance ?
