Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron employment openings

Well, I just checked the Chevron website to see what is happening with employment openings. All of these stupid news reports about the big upswing in oil industry hiring does not feel quite right. Probably 95% or more are for field workers, not professionals.

Here is what I found for Chevron for all worldwide vacancies. Earth Science - zero, Drilling and Completions - zero, Petroleum Engineering - zero, Facilities Engineering - 3 ( 1 in El Segundo, 2 in Thailand). Not much, but remember, this is Chevron.

Home of bloat, endless meetings, diversity and s-xual orientation quotas, friends and family protected employees, etc. This company is not exactly friendly to actual earth science professionals and engineers who actually do the work to find and produce oil and natural gas.

The only openings at Chevron are the revolving doors at the building entrances, only for those hoping to land a job here, the door revolves 360-degrees and deposits your a$$ outside the building where you started.

Excellent analogy @3iwp. You can't explain things more clearly than that. #SolidGold

The way I see it is, Chevron is a sinking cruise ship with too much weight onboard. It is currently tossing all unecessery weight overboard to stay afloat. Overboard goes the pastry chef , shoe shiner, musicians, waitresses, painters and even the bell boy. Of course you can't operate a ship without mechanics, electricians, deck hands and the captain.

So what best describes your job? Mechanic or Pastry Chef

If you said Pastry Chef, you better start thinking of applying somewhere else.

I haven't ditched my Chevron Advantage gas card since I left the company because it credits me 13 cents for each gallon I buy, but I did take out an ExxonMobil gas credit card that gives me back a few cents per gallon. Where I live the Exxon and Mobil gas stations have lower gas prices than Chevron or Texaco a few miles further away. I'm using my ExxonMobil card about 90% of the time now and saving money. The previous poster is also right in saying the Chevron and Texaco gas stations are starting to lack maintenance and a clean appearance, whereas the Exxon and Mobil stations look excellent.

Chevron stations are starting to look like Citgo and off brand independents.

The only openings at Chevron are manholes without their covers. Watch where you step.

Ivsf - Chevron threw too many good employees overboard, and now people are jumping! Sounds like a sinking, sickly ship. No thanks. Don't want your job even in this market. Besides, CVX gas stations are dingy looking and on the wrong side of the street!

Got to be proud to be among the protected friends and family group at Chevron. I know many of them. One takes her bug out bag to the Golden Corral and stuffs it with fried chicken.

I am quitting. Things are strange in this company. If you want my job, you can have it in 2 weeks. Just forwarded my 2 week notice to supervisor.

Yeah. I almost forgot about that Bugout Bag until it was just mentioned. What a waste of money and silly idea. Like we would grab the damn bag in case of an emergency! I found mine at the bottom of a lateral cabinet with years of junk and outdated crap piled on top. I threw it out while cleaning out my office the last week before I left Chevron. So glad to never have to work another day in my life again. Chevron is not the only company to have moved so far left on the PC band wagon. Most big companies out there have taken the same route. Good luck youngsters. This is your corporate world now.

That is funny. The sippy cup and back pack. You forgot to mention the big out bag. That might come in handy when the axe man comes for you. Don't forget to put all of that warm, fuzzy PC Chevron cap on your resume. Ha!

In this industry, you are only so valuable to the company as the oil price is high. The higher the price the more needed you will feel and vice versa.

Oil companies are not really hiring in any significant number at these oil prices. For the few jobs they do post, the competition is very steep with all of the unemployed oil workers looking for work.

Just because Chevron isn't hiring doesn't mean better run companies aren't. Not much need to hire when you are slowly liquidating the company in order to preserve the dividend.
