Top management knows exactly what they are doing

I am continually amazed at the naivete of those who think the corporare people are idiots. On the contrary they know exactly what they are doing. They are in this for a short term profit, nothing more.

If you look at it from this perspective everything makes sense. It's a less stressful way to look at the whole thing. Big mistake to assume the big wigs look at the company the way you do, especially if you are an ex-EDSer.

There's no EDSers left at the top, just vultures. Once you understand this believe it or not you'll feel better.

Op is right. Non executive managers are useless cells putting employees on the redundancy list like obsolete inventory. May 15 is approaching, how will the cells fare?

Just remember that current non-executive employees are merely cells in a spreadsheet. Nothing more and nothing less.

Ross did tell it like it is, and from what I understand, so did Dave and Bill I'm sure. They are all part of a long-gone corporate culture that actually valued employees and rewarded their contributions. No one ever referred to employees as "Inventory" or made them feel like an (unwanted) expense.

I would say that old EDS-ers (and old HP-ers and old-CSC-ers) are not naive, they just miss being treated like humans. Having had that experience in a previous life, it's hard to accept the situation in our company as it exists today. All we can do it control our reactions to the end results of short sighted greed. The only thing that matters to our bosses is Wall Street and what they must do to please it and make themselves rich in the process.

The OP has one thing right though, once you recognize the game it's easier to deal with the players or walk away from the table.
