Allstate has bought two loss making companies: Esurance and Squaretrade. Looks like neither is going to make any money in the future. Add to that Encompass which also has experienced losses. Now they have spun off a data company "Arity" trying to make money out of Allstate private customer data. This is also likely ending up a losing concern.
