Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Honeywell can not design hardware! The evidence is shown by how large the EMI organization has grown.

How can Engineers spend so much time designing circuits and then screw the whole project by poor layout...usually thrown over the wall to the CAD designer with some hastily generated design guidelines.

Honeywell's response will be to "farm out" these designs once the warranty and production cost get so high they can't support them profitably.

Are there any good Hardware Engineers left or are they just back filling with cheap foreign labor That's the bottom line isn't it? Bid a program for the cheapest amount possible and then worry about why it doesn't pass qualification testing later. That's M&PM for you!

I had a bad experience with designers in my little sh-- hole corner of aero.

Therefore, this multi-billion dollar company "cannot design hardware!"

Wew, lad.

I thought the EMI organization was shrinking & being transitioned to Puerto Rico? But I've been out for awhile. I was around when they announced the phase out & closure of EMI facilities at multiple sites.

Moving EMI testing to Puerto Rico is a form of off-shoring as it is likely the regulations are less and somehow Honeywell is getting away with something. That doesn't bode well for those who fly on airplanes but who cares as long as the executive team gets their bonuses? That was a brilliant move by the ALT to build it next to a large U.S. military communications tower. As jmj said they only have to get one unit to pass EMI qual so it just goes downhill from there.

Not arguing about Honeywell's lack of hardware design capability in Aero. Off-shoring seemed to fail in some way almost every time. Yet they continue it. Insanity, callous indifference, or purposeful negligence?

Plexus or Celestica? Wonder where their PPM falls in the list of excellence?

Honeywell does not need hardware engineers or EMI engineers. Pack your bags as most commercial design work will be outsourced in the next few years. Move to Atlanta or wait for the severance. Plexus and Celestia will design those cards.

They only have to get one unit to pass EMI in qualification testing. Who cares about the rest.
