Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Counter offer or leave?

Just received a job offer -lateral position- outside of Honeywell. Still weighing pros/cons but mulling over possible counter offer from HW. I've never been in this position before. Looking for insight/support information on what happens? Does it even happen in our company? I'm not an executive.

NEVER TAKE THE COUNTEROFFER!!! Business rule #1

Take the offer, Honeywell does not respect employees and will screw you. Just one example of making a deal with Honeywell, say they counter with big bonus, sounds good right? NIT, honeywell does not intend to keep promise and you can't make them, all you can do is leave, and now is your chance.

Many Sr program managers hired on for 15% bonus plan and Honeywell just dropped it mid year last year, only recourse was to quit.

They will do that to you and anything they promise you, Salary???, not firm, they can lay you off or make you take a furlough to reduce your salary

Unethical company

Peace of mind will never have a price tag. Just imagine the possibilities of starting fresh with a new window of opportunities. Just leave and don't look back.

You have to ask yourself why you searched for employment outside of Honeywell and then ask yourself if the issues that lead you to search for other employment have been corrected or are being corrected.

If the issues are corrected, stay. If they aren't, go. It is likely that money will lead to happiness if the other issues remain unresolved.

Take the counter offer, then leave right after.

Now that we have our MIP, I'm sure the door will see lots of folks walk through it and be done with this pig.

1wil: I'm already gone. I do like seeing the moaning about a rotten company I am so well rid of. I predict that you will be changing your tune when this stuff finally lands on you.

Sure it is a known loop hole to get a salary increase....Hon wont exceed the offer but will match jt if you are valued....perhaps not worth it but also not worth listening to the gloom mongers on here....you have to questiin why they dont leave and the answer is clear they just like to moan

If you aren't on the retirement bubble and don't have much invested at HON ... get out while the getting is good. If you are close to retirement you are probably close to being 9-blocked and RIF'd.

There are some well-thought-out answers here -- well done! I'd say go, but in any event, best of luck to the OP.

They won't make a counter offer in the form of an official job offer but they may promise a promotion or special pay adjustment if they feel you're still needed that badly.

I wouldn't follow the advice to always reject counter offers out of principle. The world of salaries, promotions, merit increases, etc is complicated and isn't always black and white. If Honeywell offers a better deal than the other guys, take it.

It may be a good idea to take a look on Glassdoor.com and see what people are saying about the new potential company first to make sure you are not going someplace just as bad as Honeywell.

You were looking for employment outside of Honeywell. If the company is more stable than Honeywell then leave. Honeywell is a sinking ship.

I would only stay around until any managerial bonus is collected.

My 2 cents - @ozj is correct, never accept a counter

Which boss do you like more and how likely the boss will change within short to medium term (up to 24 months)?

I'd make my decision based on that...

The money doesn't really matter, we think it does but it really doesn't. What matters is will you have regrets? -and with any job, how excited are you to get out of bed and go to work in the morning.

Counters have been offered recently for a few individuals where attrition has been more than expected and it is beginning to hurt that function/group. If you are leaving because of furloughs, lack of job security (RIFS), no more WFH, etc., then a lateral with a stable company is a pro. If/when HON begins missing numbers again, furloughs are back on the table, and you take another wage cut. If your co-workers are unhappy and looking, then if you stay and they leave, you will pick up more work with no additional benefits. The company will know you were looking, and some managers in the know may hold it against you in the future. Does the other company offer longer term growth, upward opportunities or allow you to learn/improve your skills? Have they had cost reduction actions? Do you know individuals on LinkedIn or through your other connections that work at that company that you can talk to? I would personally leave, but it is your decision to make. Good luck.

Rule of thump in engineering and life, never accept a counter offer. Ever.

If they did not respect you enough to pay you what you are worth already, doing it after you put in hard work to find something else is too late. They will also look for a replacement since they know you are willing to abandon ship.

Oh and f--- companies that will give you a counter offer once you are about to leave.

Not sure what site or SBU you're at but if it's mechanical, ask Tucson mechanics as they were just sold out to Celestica so take charge of your own future.

No one can answer this for you but I doubt if they counter any offer.

Also look at Greer SC. 14 people so far and 2 more this last week have left and that site is getting more business than they can handle.

Why not leave? If you were unhappy enough to look elsewhere be glad you found a position. If you current company is active on a layoff board, that tells you something right there.

Get out as fast as you can - Honeywell is a sinking ship. I did six months ago and it was the best decision I ever made.

More thdn likely no you won't get a counter. Once you give notice, if you're going to s competitor, they will show you the door do be ready once you tell them you're leaving.

Weigh thus carefully as Honeywell changes are not over do keep that in mind if the opportunity is more stable long term.

Good luck either way
