Thread regarding Sears layoffs

HQ APP keeps bothering store level management with "kudos calls"

Sears remote AP (loss prevention at HQ looking at random stores) now calls us every 20 minutes to give us a "kudos", an example being they are letting us know when they see an associate properly completing LISA, SAM and BOB at the register, or an associate is checking bills for counterfeit. Their most recent call was to thank us for having floor cones near the door.

As a zone supervisor I have stuff to do. I have more important things to do than to field phone calls from HQ APP every time someone blinks an eye.

Is this another bright idea Hoffman Estates instituted overnight, like the controversial associate "discount"? They never bothered us before--even when some pinhead walked out with a mechanics tool set a few weeks ago.

@uix - Shoplifters are well aware of the Sears "no touch" policy for floor associates and managers. One time we had a person walk into our store, pick up an expensive tool set (which was spider wrapped) and then proceeded to leave. The floor associate ran up to the person and said, "Would you like for me to ring that up for you?" The person stopped, turned, looked at the associate, said "Nope" and walked right out the door.

I used to be in AP, I had horse flies in my office and I was told, Its just that time of year, my camera system was from the 1970s and caught on fire a few times and had wires hanging everywhere and I was told by the camera tech that home office would not let them spend money to fix it because I was a seritage store and they would sell our store soon. I was given two part time AP positions at 15 hrs each and I could offer them a whopping 8 bucks per hr but they had to be top level talent willing to work all weekends and holidays. Then all my APAS were taken away and I was moved from salary to hourly and constantly asked to work off the clock. My tax status automatically got changed on my taxes without my approval to file me at single and zero when Im married with kids, I was told, it just resets sometimes when I called home office and was transferred to India. Good news is I spent all my time at work building my resume, applying to multiple jobs, calling old contacts, updating my linkedln page, etc.... I refused to give up and I refused to let Sears defeat me. I got out. I am now much happier, making more money with great benefits. Dont let Sears bring you down guys, sears going out of business doesn't have to be the end of the world. I forgot to mention when I finally got my new job offer, I put in my two week notice. My final check was supposed to be 80 hrs and they paid me 6 hrs, that was 4 months ago and they are still looking into it....

Why bother monitoring the stores? Shoplifters are still stealing. What can they do? Heck, what can WE do at the store? All we can do is sit on our thumbs and watch. Sears has a strict no touch policy unless you are a trained LP associate.

Guess what? Only a handful of Sears and Kmarts are allotted LP staff.

So, the stores are robbed blind. You know what, oh well. They don't care, I don't care.

The remote monitoring is just there to watch the employees. Never mind career shoplifters that are moving product out of the store faster than the time it would take to sell.

"Their most recent call was to thank us for having floor cones near the door."

LOL!! I really don't know what to say to that. Unbelievable. Wow. Nothing like big brother is watching.

That and...really....they need to pat people on the back for doing basic running of the store tasks, like putting up cones. WTF???? Is this a last ditch effort to begin to praise and appreciate employees to try to ease the pain of taking away their employee discount? They want to show they value the employees NOW with these atta boys because they can't show they value an employee with a simple benefit of 10% off or heaven forbid by giving them a holiday off.
