Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

A word for the under 40 crowd

You may laugh and make light of what Honeywell is doing to the 'old' employees. But it would be wise if you stepped back and realized that, if life is kind to you, you will be an 'old' employee someday too. Experienced. Dedicated. Integrity. Hard working. Honest and loyal.

Yeah

1qrw - good post. You might have a career as a stand up comedian. As far as keeping job skills up to date? You work on what they give you to work on. Don't expect any training in marketable skills unless you consider six sigma marketable. I'm retired now. I had two years of experience 14 times at HON. Good luck to every non-management person still working at HON.

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go, I'm standing here outside your door,

I hate to wake you up to say good-bye.

But the dawn is breaking, it's early morn, the taxi's waiting He's blowing his horn. I am youn and so neglected by Honeywell that I could die. So I am leaving on an airplane.

Agree with you. Good for you if your skills are up to date. Lucky for you if you didn't have a job at Honeywell that utilized the oldest versions of everything around. I thought mine were more marketable but unless I want to stay in Aerospace and move out of town (can't) I also am totally screwed for being near 55 (I don't need to look it up). So it's time for a complete transition into another technical route.

I was mainly giving advise to the younger employees. Don't depend on Honeywell or any company for your career. Take control. Don't get outdated.

To Honeywell Rose. It's not that older employees have put of date skills; many, if not all, have kept themselves very current and up to date.

The problem is (you can look this up) it doesn't matter how fabulous you are at your job, how 'up to date' you are- if you are over 55 employers frankly don't want to hire you (as much) as a younger person who potentially will stick around longer. Statistics show that purely because of AGE people are 'overlooked' all the time. Commonly. Even if you leave your first 10 years of work off your resume, your picture tell the story clearly. It's sad and it s---s

Without the traditional retirement program anymore, who would stay around and take the daily abuse? That's about the only thing keeping around the older people still left. That, and having out-of-date skills for the current job market, in which I'm currently trying to rectify myself.

Honeywell's stock is about maxed out. DC & Co. have squeezed the neck of all oxygen flow for too long. Few, if any new products in any product sector. Many were just old & delayed for various reasons. F-ed Over Rebuilt Dodge. So all that's left is the bones and they want to turn into a vapor (software holding company). The real estate will be eventually sold off. With little to prop up the stock anymore, the days of any long term growth of Honeywell stock as a long-term retirement vehicle are about over. DC & the mob are laughing all the way to the bank.

My advise for the youngers is to avoid/get out of the Aerospace industry, and Honeywell, GE and all the other clones. Get any experience you can and move on before you stay too long. Look at the horizon & update your skills every couple of years.
