Nobody knows who is protected... or not. As a technical woman past 50 yo who's only been with the corp a few years, I feel extremely vulnerable. It would be cheap and easy to get rid of me, since I'm in a position with redundancies across both sides, my counterparts are in RR with more history (and probably lower salaries), and I don't always "play nice". Been around too long to countenance fools, so I speak my mind. We'll see how that works out... ;) But to be honest, the best thing would be getting a package and moving on. The title changes they put in place are a disadvantage. Nobody can see from looking at my new title, what I actually DO. Either the people coming up with these titles have no clue, or it's a ploy to undercut our LinkedIn profiles. Not that I'm suspicious or anything ;)
It's best to hedge all your bets, take nothing for granted, and just focus on doing the best job you can - getting satisfaction from the work itself, and always working towards the next situation that's on the horizon. The last thing any of us needs, is to fry our systems with bitterness and acrimony that taints our attitude when we interview for our next job.
Stay strong.
Take nothing for granted.
Remember that the corp's chief goal is to ensure its own survival, not provide anything of substance for any of us that doesn't suit its own purposes.
