Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Honeywell is FIxed

So dave and darius announce what a shambles honeywell was 15 years ago. Well now it is all fixed. SERIOUSLY? The exodus of qualified employees, furloughs, no raises, poor medical plans, lack of new products, outsourcing of anything possible, pre-determined review processes. poor quality, give a sh-- attitudes, and more than i could write today. These guys are living in the clouds, they don't know how bad it is. What are the odds aerospace exists in 15 more years?

If you can now afford to do without SS, look into stopping payments in order to possible receive more later. The process is called Voluntary Suspension of Benefits.

Glad to hear you landed a job even If it's < 1/2 of what you rec'd at HON. You won't be able draw a lot of SS because at 62 the max you can make working a year is <$20K before the SS boys start withholding bucks based on you current salary.

I was laid off Jan 3rd after 34 loyal years of service. I have applied for many jobs with excellent companies with no response. I am 62, so I am not the preferred candidate when competing with young college graduates. I also only have an Associate degree, and all of the good jobs require at least a Bachelor degree or better. Small lower paying companies don't want to hire because they don't think they can afford me. Also, because of my age, they all know I might retire any time, and they want someone long term. Good jobs may be easy to find for the young folks, but not for those my age. I finally changed my cover letter to explain my situation. I started drawing SS, will lean on my pension and 401K, so I don't need the high salary I had with Honeywell. A small manufacturing company finally hired me as a Quality Engineer, the same as I was at Honeywell, at less the half the salary.

"It's not ALL about stock prices" True. However because A-- stock was so low for quite a few years and split several times both my wife and I were able to build our 401Ks to over $1m each by retirement time (35+ years each). No leadership roles here we both started out hourly in the early/mid 70s and got undergrad degrees paid for by AS.

@-shq: depends on where you're located; I can also say that in my area the market is bad.

If you are so happy at Honeywell you probably have not looked at the job market recently and have no clue as to whether it is good or bad. I can tell you as a former Honeywell employee who has been active in the job market, it is extremely good and there are opportunities all over the place that pay more, provide better benefits and a much better working environment. I'm glad that you are happy where you are, but keep your blinders on and stop providing commentary on something that you know nothing about.

Baloney on all time stock price high. If you worked for the "real" Honeywell in the '80's, you saw stock over $120/share and at least 2 splits that I recall. Figure in inflation and you'd need in excess of $250/share right now to even be at par with value at that time.

All time high stock prices. in a corporate sense, Honeywell is doing amazing. We live in a corporate world, get used to it.

I love working here, and I love the company. I know how bad the job market really is

Makes you proud, doesn't it? I want my AiResearch back. Things started going down the toilet when Allied Chemical got involved and accelerated noticeably during the Bossidy years. I was hired in '68, and you can't imagine the difference between then and now, or maybe you can.
