Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

2 week notice and leaving for a competitor

Was told in December that I was being moved to a "special project" that was scheduled to end in February with the possibility of lasting longer.

Accepted an offer for a competitor bank and trying to time my 2 week notice so that I can hopefully get my severance package. Start day at new gig is 2/27. If I turn my notice in on the Friday before that, is my manager supposed to just send me home for 2 weeks, paid?

If your end goal is to get severance, then you wait for severance. Giving two weeks has nothing to do with it; btw, I've seen people who gave two week notice, who are also working in jobs with access to security info, and they were not sent home but had to work full two weeks.

I'm confused.....why do you think you will get laid off for going to a competitor? I left for a competitor and had to train my team for the remaining 2 weeks

Feel like I should clarify.. General goal is to get severance. So trying to work timing out of 2 week notice. If the bank does do the "send employee home if going to a competitor", I can delay putting my 2 week notice in. Sorry for the confusion.

Congratulations on your new job, ignore any bitterness they are just jealous. As far as walking you out or having to pay you for your notice that may depend on what state you are in.

Hope you love everyday at your new place. Talk about another entity that needs to drain the swamp! The culture at BAC is surely the most toxic environment!

If you are giving notice it means you are leaving voluntarily and will not get a severance package.

You don't always get walked out the door for a competitor. I wasn't.

Generally if you go to a competitor they walk you out the door the same day. I don't think they have to pay you.

They generally dont send you home for 2 weeks unless its a layoff or you handle sensative information and they are concerned about your continued access. When you get laid off they kill your access immediately but have to pay you for 2 weeks before your severance. If you resign they will expect you to train your coworks or do a knowledge transfer. You dont have to give them 2 weeks but if you said today's my last day and left they would likely code you as ineligible for rehire
