As someone who is still trying to recover from the small "job performance/job validity" layoffs of 2015 (there's nothing like working two part-time, no-benefit jobs for 65 hours a week at 60 percent of your old salary -- everyone should try it!), I offer the following thought:
One of the big factors the CEO is using for these layoffs, old and new, is job performance. He's let a lot of good people go because they weren't meeting the company's expectations, particularly in terms of personal growth (or so he says). Yet Intel as a whole, under Brian Krzanich's watch, has posted minimal gains in market share and profitability. That's a direct reflection of how the CEO is doing his job. So...given the set of parameters he's established for job retention, he should be firing himself.
But, as Mel Brooks once said, "It's good to be the king." Or perhaps it should simply be, "Do as I say...not as I do."
I notice, too, that he recently sold his Folsom-area home. Maybe's he's lost his taste for apples. Or he sees an Apple in his future...
