Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

WFH Exceptions. Have heard outcome of a few!

Basically, DECLINED!

HR will align the person to the closest Honeywell office even if it's 2 hours away. And expect them to commmute unless.

Anyone else hearing anything?

Leadership is treating this with the same lack of skill, courage and imagination as they treat everything else. WFH situations range between simple convenience to absolute necessity but the lazy One Honeywell solution is a rubber stamped NO unless you back them into a corner. I know of some absolutely heartbreaking situations where people are being denied and it makes me sick to think about the entitlements that leadership affords itself while they treat their assets like $#!T.

I know of a select few that have been told it's ok to work from home still. I'm only sure of the reason for one of them though. They work more than 2hrs from the closest office.

@ggl - actually not everywhere, in some countries employees have the right to have flexible working arrangements considered and the employer MUST consider them and have valid business reasons to reject. This policy is going to test those rights to the limit (but bearing in mind the flexibility that we had is being revoked, I would expect the employer would need an absolutely AIRTIGHT justification... think they have one? I don't.)

The other thing is, those who have been WFH for years have an implied contract - an employee can't just change those conditions without consultation (and again, business justification). This impacts people financially and socially, and introduces undue stress. Everybody impacted by this should be getting legal advice for their own situation.

Leadership are using some of the requests for exceptions to discuss potential RIF candidates.

Yes but you know what else is a privilege? Working past 40 hours, having late or early morning meetings...

You piss people off enough and they will do the bare bone minimum to stay afloat until they find something better and give you a 1 day notice and tell you to f--- off. Treating people like sh-- is not a sustainable way to run a business.

While it doesnt feel good, WFH ie Telecommuting, is a privilege not a right. There is a Telecommuting Policy which states the above as well as Management's right to revoke the policy at any time. I dont like it either especially for those ee's that have over an hour commute, let alone 2 hrs.

Exactly, that's what we are paid to do.

It is speaking volumes that the work from home policy hasn't been published. This is because the company knows what the ramifications are if they don't write this correctly.

Once policy is published, it will be no time before people will be able to demonstrate unfair treatment.

The company is trying to kick off a major diversity campaign and went straight back to the fifties with this change.

It would have made more sense to give managers expectations and hold these managers accountable to managing their team.

You guys want exemptions? Easy, go to your boss or his boss or whoever in HR and put your 3 day notice in. Tell them they have 3 days to approve your exemption and give you a higher salary as well since you're probably not payed what your worth anyway. After 3 days if they don't meet your demand..good bye. Simple as that. There are jobs out there, don't bend backwards for this sh-- company.

Nothing from management or from HR. I am sure they will deny and since this was part of my job offer, I'm already planning my exit. They can look for my replacement in India and get some awesome quality from them... in the next 10 years.

I think a lot of ppl are working on leaving. And they are all highly experienced and knowledgeable employees. I guess HI thinks they don't matter and they can find more employees. After all, they already think engineers are interchangeable. But the word is out this is a sh*thole to work at. hahahahaha

I know of one, who didn't request exemption but rather submitted resignation. This person was issued exemption within the hour (straight from hr)

Haven't heard of any. One of my direct reports has been here almost 30 years and has a wealth of knowledge. His request was denied and he has a 2.5 hour roundtrip commute. He's working on leaving or retiring. Great job, Dave.

Nothing has changed in the office I'm in. All still working from home even if they live 15 minutes away.

I bet the exceptions will be based on the same criteria across Honeywell.

And if you believe that I have some high end speakers to sell you out of my trunk for cheap!

I have a 3-4 hour (round trip, high traffic area) commute. My request was denied so I am now spending those hours in my car contributing to pollution.

We've heard of one who supposedly will come in twice a week. And no, the distance from office isn't a problem.
