Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel can't attract good people.

Five years agoo, we made a offer to a real amazing MIT grad, he declined said he was going to Grad school, Joint PhD and MBA, 5 to 6 years. BEST school in world. WE brought him for summers, some years he said others he was tied up. JUST reached out to him as he is graduating soon. He tells me that he has 3 offers already, one as Assist Prof. Others are above 225k, I think McKinsey. We can't compete sad. Here he is speaking in 2011

Why would a tier 1 with dreams hitch his career to a bozo from San Jose State who has done nothing of significance nor vision?

Intel only pays mid-market wages. So they can't expect to get top of the market hires. This policy over the years, has gradually lowered the level of engineering skills to the extent that the company is starved of engineering talent. This is just one of the factors. Another, more important factor is the failure to promote engineers into decision making positions.

Both of these are manifesting now as consistent execution failures in getting products to market.

What's the point of hiring fresh PHDS when INTEL has GED high school grads sitting in senior positions at Intel , supervising these PHD RCGs?

I just saw an Intel Job Ad on Linked in looking for an RCG or intern!!!!

If they have no trouble attracting talent surely they don't need to advertise for this position....interns would gladly join Intel knowing they spend all day goofing off in classes and social activities.

@KgKzuvv-1nfa. There is a crazy misguided belief at Intel that a high GPA and PhD is required. I see many of these poor hired doing things that a BS or even high schooler can do. It is mind numbing to waste brainpower and pay for this talent but the biggest joke is the guy who advocates as well as the guy at the top don't have the same credentials and wouldn't even get hired into this sinking ship.

Right now at intel you need a PhD to get hired do the equivalent of bail water or shovel coal.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Most jobs at Intel don't require rocket science, 1 or 2% need to be very smart. Rest red neck fat white guys from OSU are fine

If your English is always that bad, then I can understand why he didn't want to join a company where you are gainfully employed.

We had a couple of phenomenal RCG's a couple of years ago. Ones you could tell were on the PE/fellow fast track as they were putting out results comparable to grade 8's right out of college.

Fast forward to today, they're both long gone (grad school, Google). I was good friends with one, he always talked about the company going in the wrong direction, the horrible quality of managers, how people were mistreated and how untrustworthy BK was. He hated how things were done totally incorrectly just so that it looked better on focal (reinventing the wheel instead of re-using one).

One big thing he hated was how much red tape there was to do the smallest thing and then that you were expected to sacrifice work/life balance to make up for all the waste. He loved doing his actual work, but admitted that he was only given 2 hours a day to do it. Our manager was the "all hands in every meeting" type and it became a meme - we figured we'd all attend everybodys' focal results.

So he left, and the other guy left for similar reasons. Thanks to sites like this, potential hires are seeing stories like this and staying away. So no, I don't see us attracting top talent until we get a major cultural change (and I don't mean more bathrooms).

The brightest from my hiring group and I hired a lot, many left, more declined and of the few that came and couple are FLM and a few as high as PE.

Great talent is easy to spot and most are smart enough to understand where this once great company is and limited opportunities here.
