If I don't work from home, I get nothing done with all the loud mouths around the cube world. They like to stand up and yell across to each other. No thanks, I work from home until someone shows up at my door to pick up my laptop.

@2ape I agree partially but I think you're missing a third condition necessary for the outsourcing to occur. The laws and international agreements need to allow it (and even grease the skids for it). That's where an administration can make a difference.

Same here. I was working 11 hours per day minimum when I worked from home. Sometimes I'd get an IM or text at 9m or later needing me to fix something or help someone transfer something in SAP. Since my laptop was on and connected 24/7, I didn't mind helping out to get things done. Supporting meetings and initiatives after hours? No problem!

Now that I'm being forced to come into the plant with the rest of the hourly laborers, I do my 40 hours as required and then i go home. No more late night fixes, no more free OT, no more meetings outside my core 8 hour day. I get to enjoy the same benefits as the guys who drive into the site everyday!. I'll admit, I like having my nights and weekends off now. I could get used to these 40 hour MAX workweeks. It's interesting to see the entire company slow down now that we arent all slaving away 24/7 for daves benefit. I have noticed things that used to take a day or hours at most now take 3 or 4 days. Bravo, dave and thank you for giving me my home life back.

As long as there's cheaper labor and no environmental requirements overseas companies will continue to outsource jobs. No modern United States administration has the corner on that market.

I agree with the poster who says he/she is not working a lot anymore. 40 hours in plant is great! I spend time now following My Leader Cote's wish: schmoozing. We don;t have a kitchen and there are no assembly signs at the watercoolers, but hey! Schmoozing about football, fashion, the Clubs and so forth. Around a certain time we get to discuss lunch plans. Oh ya then I get to spend time trying to break into conversations with Indians here on H1-B who are all male and don't know how to deal with an old white grandma. Because in their state (region of India) women's life expectancy is 47. I figure it took white men 40 years to accept women engineers, I've got a few more to work on them.

I agree as I'm one of those WFH and have several early morning mtgs with locations outside of the US and may have to report to a location far from my home and yes I had all the approvals when the company did I signed off but now the deal is off

Thanks for the clarification

I was referring to the posters praising the no WFH policy which is stupid and very close minded.

It should be about the job that you do and what you accomplish, not where you do it from. I still have yet to hear how they will solve the late or early meetings with China or India without some sort of a WFH or partial WFH policy.

Yoiu can argue that NO WFH makes somewhat sense if you are not spread all over the f---ing globe and expected to support teams from totally different time zones. But with a company like Honeywell, it makes 0 sense.

"Closed Minded"? REALLY?

I've worked for Garrett, Signal, Allied-Signal, Honeywell for 36 years. I started on the assy. line starting at $7.25 HR and worked 2000 overtime hours each year for the first three years in a row.

Life was good and I was very proud to say I worked for Garrett as it was very respected around Phoenix. They treated us well for the most part, seemed to appreciate us and took care of us with 2 raises per year with a cost of living raise in Oct. Christmas bonus for all employees, great family events through the year.

Today it's all about work harder with fewer people, do more in other words I'm an engr and do everything but design parts, budgets cut so deep I can't do my job now the word is out faster is better, to heck with thorough and do it right. Benefits not only being reduced but flat cut. Pay cuts via Furloughs, so badly managed they had to do not one but two RIFs within a couple of months and blame that on gained efficiencies so give me a break on you deserve each other you obviously have no idea what you're writing about!

You guys are really close minded, just like Cote. You deserve eachother.

Enjoy your paycuts, benefit cuts and upcoming RIFs and furloughs! Cote's bailing out, so the joke is on you.

I think you meant "team" environment. And I agree completely with your post.

Right on! Most WFH people I know are antisocial and don't work well with others in a ream environment. Let's see how Dave's experiment works out. First objective is to wipe out the sense of entitlement that those WFH slugs have enjoyed for years.

"Trouble stirrers"? Fact is, most WFH people work at their leisure, and don't get nearly as much done as their counterparts in the office. Not to mention that they are not team players, since they prefer to be loners working at whatever pace they feel like.

Dave - thanks for getting these folks back into the workforce. Please ignore their incessant squealing. You are doing the right thing.

I worked from home for years. I would keep my computer logged into the network 24/7. I started work at 6:00 in the morning and worked 10 to 14 hour days. I had to work the weekends more times than not. Honeywell got tons of unpaid overtime out of me. With the policy change, I was told I could still work all the free overtime I wanted to from home, as long as I put in my core 40 hours at the plant. LOL Like I'm going to give this company any unpaid overtime anymore. I feel like I am working half time now. I go to the plant, work my 40 hours, log off, and do not work a single hour of overtime anymore. This is amazing. So, this is what it is like to work at the plant. Honeywell will need to hire a few more people to get all the work done; but that isn't my problem. Oh wait, they are laying off, not hiring. Bummer

WFH people always work harder because your job doesn't leave you. Don't let these sad little trouble stirrers get into your head. They are the true whiners here and are just trying to get people riled up.

Don't feed into it!

The thousands of WFH employees know the truth. ( ;

I agree that the WFH policy was a joke too. If you have a job - then get your lazy @zz out of bed and come to work like everyone else Period.

I don't know which wfh people you've been dealing with, but everyone I know that telecommutes puts in more hours (usually salaried folks who aren't allowed overtime, but are still expected to get extra work done, even though they are overburdened to take up slack from hourly employees... coincidence?). Sounds like you're just jealous because you've never been trusted to wfh (wonder why?).

Well, I like him because he got rid of that stupid WFH policy.

I love seeing people actually having to come in to work, instead of sleeping in and slacking off at home.

They are all so pissed off and it's kind of cute.

Thanks Dave!

He is not incompetent at all, he made millions for himself and his cronies. He is a crook and a thief who most likely belongs in jail for corruption, inside trading and who knows what else.
