Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Declined my VRIF

So I'm ready to leave the company that was so good to me and my family over the years. I've saved, planned, done all the divisions under the Honeywell banner a good job. They want to lay off younger talented people so I said why not save a job and volunteer? Yes I'm very busy and have lots to do

In 2017 but I thought it time to get out.

I applied wondering if my manager would allow me to leave and stop the suffering. I got my answer, denied! So now I'll continue to try the best I can to do a good job with those left across the org. It's limited talent and limited desire to continue on.

I will apply next time no matter the 13 was or 26 but at some point it has diminishing returns.

I will be watching who gets RIF'd In a week or two. I'm sure there are many others ready to go but Hon will not give them the 26 weeks hoping we leave anyway thus saving them the severance.

OP- I am assuming you have been at Honeywell long enough to have a pension? If that's the case, the reason you were not selected for the VRIF is because (hard rumor has it) they are changing the pension in 2017. Read some of the other threads on that. Think about it.

If they are changing it to a lump sum payout, the equivalent is about 6 years. However, if you decide to take early retirement, you can keep what you have! ( ; sounds good huh? Except- you are now unemployed with NO severance payout and NO unemployment (if you activate your pension). Oh and on your own now for health insurance.

Honeywell just figured a way to get rid of the longer term older employee without paying the higher severance- or any severance at all

And who in their right mind will accept the 6 year lump sum? That's a joke.

Who's laughing now? Not me

If you are prepared to leave then you are in the drivers seat. 7.5 hours of work each day.

Take your 2 15 minute breaks and don't sit at your desk at lunch but go to the cafeterias. Leave on time and don't put in the OT. If you have India calls then leave early and let them know you have put in only your 40 hours for health reason and stress.

At that point they will have to put you on a PIP that lasts at least 2 months. Plus then you can put into an email (you BCC yourself at home to retain a copy) that you think it is in retaliation for using the 15 minute breaks and your lunch break and how did the quality of your work go down since you were just reviewed and nothing was said. You can also put in the email something about your age NOW being a factor. At that point you have ammunition if they do fire you, that you can use to collect unemployment which can affect Honeywell unemployment rates they pay. In the mean time you had some quality of life time. Don't sacrifice your health and family time anymore for a company that just doesn't care about you. They don't care about you, you don't care about them.

I bet your co-workers and first line manager would understand and wish they could do the same.

You are in the drivers seat, have fun with it at Honeywell expense.

It is truly ugly, especially in the AERO segment. I have a lot of sympathy for those that remain. Best wishes to you.
