Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Let's say your coworker with kids to feed is RIFed. Can you asked to be RIFed so that said coworker with kids to feed can keep his job?

No...we want to keep those without kids/younger than 30. Easier to get s---ers to work unpaid OT, weekends, and stick them with the low PD scores. They got all the time in the world to "Improve". If we chose someone with family that happens to be older well, its because we know damn well what we are doing. Anyone older, with kids especially, are dead weight and don't deserve a job...oh officially we mean "your position has been eliminated" don't expect us to deviate from the script. Too bad about the people with young families but you know how business is, better you than me. Here's a free box for your stuff though.

Honeywell's best product now is stock buybacks, similar to IBM. This is a CEO and Wall Street plan. Really anyone else is just a block on an Excel spreadsheet. Anyone who watches CNBC should note how giddy they all are on that show now, versus how angry they were in 2009, and how often our CEO is on there. What does he mean when he says we are transforming into a software company? Not in business to make things, in business to make the stock go up. Cash beats all else, sell anything you can to get cash - designs, buildings. Fewer people and fewer plant & equipment means fewer headaches, less benefits and more cash for the top - to keep stock up. Regarding volunteering, I know multiple people who volunteered up to 3 times and have been denied each time. Yes there is a statistical balance they have to meet, but also I think they look very close at how much the expense is with the person. For older employees fortunate enough to have a pension, some are lump sum, some annuity and some a choice. I think this is a factor.

That's why they ask for volunteers prior to a RIF, not after.

Do not think you can request now to be laid off (Riffed Reduction In Force) in place of another co worker. Legal and HR spend time looking at age, race etc. before deciding so they can't get sued and knowing the government rules volunteering probably doesn't give Honeywell and out on those statistics. Not enough time to change your time and volunteer at this late date. Even if you volunteered those statistics still rule the roost.

Also I believe with government rules on layoffs the person can be replaced or back filled by another person for one year. So you may not be in the same group as the other person or at the same skill level.

Still seems to me they are hoping that older workers that volunteered but not picked get fed up and with a potentially lower severance package just quit next year saving them tons of money.

Sad to say it's only Cote and others at the top that will get an extremely generous severance package.

@pbo. If you are asking that question. 'What is RIF'd?' Who are you? Obviously not a Honeywell employee!!

Reduction In Force

RIF= laid off

And to the OP- what a thoughtful gesture. All along this horrible journey I have felt so much worse for someone with a family to support who gets RIF'd. But they pick people for a reason and I am sure there is no way they would let you take their place. But hey! It never hurts to ask!

Thoughtful question! And only HR or ALT can answer, but since neither are thoughtful or have a conscience, I'll guess the answer is no.
