To all the folks despairing right now, there is life after Honeywell. 20 years there, loved the work and the people, but couldn't take it any more and took a RIF earlier this year. Unsure at first, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me, career wise. After a few months of R&R, I found a company that valued my skills and had an offer within a month. Four other offers pending when I accepted, so there are jobs out there. And no, I'm not a corporate or HR mole, so don't start with that. Aero E&T.
I received a decent raise, better title, no direct reports, no commute, and more importantly, many other "NO"s, as in:
NO EEI or Yield targets
NO more e-mails vanishing after 30 days
NO shareholders or insatiable corporate greed
NO tier boards, endless meaningless metrics or clipboards on the walls
NO HPD, putting good people on PIPs or rack n stack
NO Concur red lights or out of cycle travel approvals
NO vague, unreachable goals flowed down from the clouds
NO MOR, MOS or statusers statusing the status
NO furloughs or the endless RIF guillotine hanging over your head
NO HOS or 5S
NO BS - only a company that simply wants to develop great products and values me as a human being.
Hang in there, you may not think so right now, but your skills are valued. Even for those nearing retirement, there are plenty of hungry companies that want to get into legacy HW businesses and smell the blood in the water. They would love to have a HW veteran on staff or consulting. Good luck everyone.
