New College Grad, chances of survival through RIFs?

Fresh college grad here entered this mess, sort of paranoid since I have student loan payments to pay coming soon. Do you think Honeywell will RIF college grads (or people of lower levels)? Or do you think I'm relatively safe?

If you're one of Candy's kids, you'll be fine. Preferential treatment is part of the FFL game.

@1mkj. This is what I keep telling people. It doesn't matter if you're employee of the year with straight 1s since you were hired, you'll get RIF'D the same as some block 5 or below guy. All your hard work, dedication, productivity means jack sht to this place. All they care about is getting your salary and benefits off the books. All these people that think they can avoid getting sht canned if they just work hard, I just shake my head. That's exactly what Dave wants you to believe but the truth is, none of us are safe. Use this time to look for something new NOW.

I made it almost a year as a new hire. Asked my mentor was told "You do excellent work don't worry" asked my manager, 6 month review was not 9 blocked but he stated I was doing "Great", just work on six sigma project. I even asked my manger to critique my "What have you done for us lately" email that gets sent out before the selection meetings. He said "This is great! good job! I wish my other employees were as detailed in responding." Week later I was pulled in an office by that same f---tard manager and told my job was eliminated. The HR rep smiled through the whole thing like she was delivering an award. I guess why wouldn't they be happy? They get to remain employed. Don't trust anyone there! There is no effort/review/Fuking bravo award....NOTHING that will save you from the chopping block. The truth is your pain is not their concern and telling in advance adds risk you will do terrible work/have a fit/or worse tell on them for letting you in on their disgusting secret and drag themselves down with you. Its just better for them to let you drown alone unable to do anything about it. Besides, unemployed people don't have money to sue so...win win for Honeywell. My advice? If you currently or plan to work for Honeywell you are setting yourself and everyone dependent on you in significant jeopardy. Yes, if Honeywell folds your pensions will go bye bye too, stop saying "Well shucks I got this pension....". Stop lying to yourself and everyone else that it will get better. The death knells of this company have rung. On the upside you get to experience what happens to companies that exploit "emerging markets" to produce same or better products for less. Cause you know, everything you buy at walmart is cheaper and thus superior to any other options out there. Also fun fact, if you apply for a new job the hiring manager pulls up your file and you will be listed as "Terminated". Not RIFd, not laid off because of factors beyond your control "TERMINATED". I got asked "Why were you terminated from your last position here? I answered it was because of the RIF...which is the same thing as saying I stole a laptop and vandalized the bathroom...there's no way they will ever hire you back. I found something better...much better and despite what is claimed by the media and the ridiculous town hall meetings there are plenty of businesses willing to hire, pay and treat employees right. Continue at your own peril/no refunds.

The only people I recommend HON to are people i dont like. Everyone else i tell them what HON does abd thwy make the easy decision to avoid HON on their own.

Try to resist the negativity. Learn what you can on the job. Learn how to invest. Realize that you have a job and not a career at HON. If you haven't bought a house yet be careful. If you do, at least locate where there are other employers. Where I live HON is the only game in town but luckily I am retired.

Don't succumb to the hate.

You're fine as long as you provide what is asked of you. Avoid overtime whenever possible. Best advice comes from post ID @K4BFB4B-eib.

Good luck, welcome to Honeywell.

Being a college grad is the perfect time to avoid HON. Our products are total garbage and soon you will not want to have HON on your resume, it will be like listing Enron as a previous employer. Do the right thing from the start; avoid HON. Read these comments on this site, as they are mostly true. The truth is, there is NO future at HON. The company's sole purpose right now is to line big fat Dave's pockets. That's it.

I shouldn't worry right now but I strongly suggest to keep an eye on options around you and please advise your college peers about this mess so they don't fall on the trap.

Get out now. Don't stay here 20 years only to get screwed like so many of us. Being RIFed will be the best thing that could happen to you. I have no bigger regret than choosing HI, I am so screwed now.

I've not heard numbers or seas but I do know engr. Is getting hit pretty hard. Rumor is certain groups in Phx. Won't look the same afterwards.

I'm guessing timing is mid December but got our HR that may ba a push for them and it slides to January but I doubt it. Why pay all the holidays?

All the best. Getting RIFed early in career isn't a bad thing.

They pre-select who goes and who stays, regardless of whether or not you volunteer. At one site, of those that were axed, 50% were voluntary, and 50% involuntary. The 50% voluntary was only a quarter of the total number that volunteered. They just want you to think that you have a choice. Conniving little vermin.

My prediction is they're going to have 5x the amount of people volunteer than they wanted to sh*tcan.

I want to know the same thing! I am recent college grad and am afraid of the RIF too. I do want to ask........what is the pay rate for engineers that have been here for ~10 or more years?

Managers look at who has the skills to carry on future work. The better your skills the better chance you have to survive a RIF. Next they look at behaviors and last they look at seniority. The good news is there are a lot of people that want to leave or retire so many will be asking for a voluntary.

I'd explore other options. HI is an old man's club.

I wouldn't worry too much dude. You are getting paid sh-- compared to the old timers so they will try to keep you just because of how low they pay you. I'd say 1-3 years xp and you're in the clear. Less than 1 year you might get unlucky because of the offset need like the last poster said.

But don't worry about it. There are way better places out there than Honeywell. We just don't tend to see that until we are forced out of Honeywell.

Dont forget to do your civil duty and tell your classmates what a sh--place this is. So they go to better places if given the option.

depends....

How did your business unit perform last quarter? You can find this out by attending Cote's town hall or watching the replay. You can pull up the q3 financials off the investor relations site.

If you are in a solid performing group and are busy then you are probably safe. It is your job as an employee to make an assessment of you are making the company money, they want to turn a profit not run a charity.

Are you finding your day filled with overhead and you aren't doing billable work....

Also asking your mentor (not boss) would be better than a website full of pissed off employees who know nothing of your situation

Slim to none. They need younger peoole to offset the older people in RIFs RIDe so they can age discriminate with impunity.
