Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Union Yes!

Why are US and Canadian employees targeted for repeated layoffs, furloughs, benefit cuts, and other indignities while European employees have job security? Because we're not protected by a Works Counsel. How do we solve this problem? Unionize.

There are many available resources to assist us protect our rights as American workers. Let's take a stand and tell management that we will not be used up and spit out when convenient. We are not their disposable, expendable cogs.

Boeing moved as many engineers as possible into Analyst titles back in the 90s. Then they declared those analysts ineligible for the union as they weren't engineers. Note HON tried to do that to engineers after the Allied Signal merger. Moved a bunch of engineers into Analyst positions and put them in IT. Analysts make less than engineers.

Boeing has a union for engineers, why not Honeywell? I was treated like sh^t the last five years I was there. I would have voted for a union. People don't think that they need a union until it is too late. Do you think a union would allowed "stacked ranking" and dire cutbacks on benefits? Time to wake up and smell the coffee. Oh, too late for you personally? I can relate. Engineers by nature don't like unions, I understand that. Understand that American management hates every last one of you. Unless you want to be bullied and mistreated think union. At least it is one way to give management a scare.

Unions have become mostly powerless, and have gone the way of Jimmy Hoffa, especially in the recent economic crisis, when companies blackmailed them by threatening to declare bankruptcy if they didn't get their way. Most, if not all, of the safeguards they fought for and won, for over a century, was lost in an instant, never to come back.

You obviously never heard about what happened to the UAW at all three U.S. auto makers. Ask those union members how well protected their jobs are today.

The EU layoff limitation has almost nothing to do with unions and everything to do with protective labor laws. The cost associated with a layoff in some countries can take 5 years to break even. Helps in the downturn and hurts in the up, due to higher total cost of labor.

Unions won't save you from layoffs and they are trending towards the dinosaurs per gov data. This last bit is partially opinion.
