Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

New HQ Building vs WFH

Didn't Honeywell design the new HQ building to only have desk space for about 80% of expected HQ workers? The reason was many normally work from home OR visit other locations so why build work locations for them? Additionally, desk space was all unassigned for the same reason. Did HQ not roll out this way?

Rumor has it that the commitment to the State of New Jersey was that the building would be 90% occupied, and it's currently less than 40%. As a violation of the contract with the state, Honeywell would likely need to repay their state grants.

That may actually be a part of the motivation behind this move, although many of the other guesses I've read here seem plausible as well (fill the desks to show off to potential buyer, get everyone in the office so they can be RIF'd in person, motivate people to quit - or create justifications for termination for cause to reduce severance while freeing up headcount for Atlanta and Morris Plains hiring, etc.)

Some sites (Redmond) is thought to have 40% at any given time out of office and working remote, vacation, travel or sick. They are going through Honeywell 2.0 so let's see how that works.

No assigned cubes, No personal things out, you have a locker for personal stuff, you work with a team and are mobile within a work area. Also smaller cubes. YUK!

This will be the future for Hon. work spaces. Looking at PHX soon and consolidating all PHX. locations, no one is safe.

LOLOL. The site was never designed for everyone to have a seat. I do not know where that came from but they probably told you that to shut you up. It was designed with seating for a limited % of MP employees and if more showed up too bad. It was expected that 20% or more to be traveling or working remotely every week. I guess they did not figure into the %s the crappy leadership at HON.

When we were still planning to move from Morristown HQ to Morris Plains HQ we were told there would be a workplace available for everyone should every employee show up. This was in 2014 and my manager was very clear about this. There would be no "standing room only".

80% or 65% capacity would indicate that they expect 20% or 35% will be riffed, fired, quit, or die, with the last option being the most preferred by the company.

Yep, limited seating for employees as some worked from home or were travelling. I guess there will be room with the new policy as they expect people to quit.

I know someone who was on the planning for the new HQ and it was scaled to accommodate 65% of local employees.
