Dave Cote says Layoffs and Furloughs required to combat High Efficiencies at HON

Layoffs, Furloughs Driven by Efficiency, Honeywell Says

Honeywell International (HON) is apparently laying off people in its aerospace division because it is too efficient.

"When you look at the layoffs and furloughs ... a lot of that is being driven by just better and better efficiency within our aerospace business," said CEO David Cote in a conference call Friday.

Real Money confirmed Tuesday that the company is implementing a small reduction of positions in certain areas of aerospace this year.

"Tim (Mahoney, divisional CEO for the aerospace segment) has been doing a remarkable job of making all our processes work better, whether it's how we engineer or how we manufacture, how we run our staff functions," said Cote. "It's really just being driven by doing a better job overall, which is a good sign, certainly puts us in a better position to grow."

The company said the reduction will better align costs with current demand. The number of jobs to be cut has not been disclosed.

But the aerospace area has struggled this year. Honeywell noted that its aerospace sales were down 1%.

Its hard to watch what they have done to Honeywell. Now they found a way to sell the employees to a Canadian company to get rid of our pensions and benefits. They are selling the Tucson employees but not the business and wont allow any employees to transfer to another Honeywell job.

Exactly. Everyone is on borrowed time. Hon IS GOING TO FIRE EVERYONE at some point. No matter how good of a job you do, that doesn't matter. It doesn't even matter that the foreigner that gets your job does it even half as good as you, because you and your "high cost" is gone and now Davy and darius can make an extra billion dollars. Thank your government for making this all possible.

The customer is not the #1 priority of upper management. Their first priority, 24/7, is getting rid of jobs, outsourcing, sending them out of country, selling them off. Rest assured every day you faithfully go in and do your job, there's a room full of them figuring, planning, finagling to end your employment. Second priority is pushing their money pit HOS system. Laden down with non value added acronyms, metrics, matrixes, charts, and graphs. Speak not against or suffer the far right outer edge of your 9 block. After that the customer may be considered. And the employee, well you're not even on the page...
