Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Long term employee, never seen it this bad.

I am a 36 year Aero employee, started at Engines, first group of employees to move to Garrett Pneumatic Systems Div. (GPSD), from Garrett to Allied Signal now Honeywell, lived through the GE fiasco.

I was even laid off myself and returned 3 mos. later in 1983. There is such a feeling of desperation now. Leaders not talking to employees, actions taken with no communication. It's sinister in many ways. Cote sells 1.3 Mil shares of his own stock (Yahoo Financial), New leadership coming in soon and Cote stepping down. Are we getting ready to sell of businesses? It's like we're all rats on a sinking ship. I've been through this before but never like this.

If you're a Coll. Grad. don't come here right now, look elsewhere. I say that because we're bringing on newly graduated students next year, they've been hired. Bad times at Hon.

Well I've seen it worse. 1990 Lockheed Burbank Skunk works closed and 30,000 employees gone almost overnight. You know we built SR71, U2, F-117A, F-22.... 1991 RIF at McDonald Douglas Aircraft Long Beach plant. 20,000 employees laid off in (3) months (55K employees reduced to 35K employees). Who was president?? Should we blame him?? It really doesn't matter. You may not find a job in your back yard, but there is work out there. I worked with engineers from Dornier, Heinkel, & Messerschmitt back in the late 70's we didn't make fun because they were old, we marveled at what we had learned. We need to make our own luck. I hope everyone finds their place in the sun!!

Need another batch of fresh newbies for the next RIF in 3 months. One newbie sacrifice for each old timer gone keeps everything legal.

RIFs/furloughs/ no raises will continue through 2018. Now that Dave and his boyfriend darius have seen that the employees tolerate this bullahit, this will now be part of the bottom line each quarter.

No I don't think so. This is a move to make bottom line look better than it is OR to keep stock up for Cote payout. Now, they could sell in a few months but I doubt it. I do think they are going to say " it's over...for now and here's what we're going to do to you pond s---ing scums. It's only going to keep on going now. We are not the lucky ones.

Just my .02 worth.

Agreed, I have 31 years in, and my continued advice to anybody 0-5 years with Honeywell, RUN, RUN LIKE HELL, get out now, this ship is going down. There is zero future at Honeywell. Open your eyes, and make the decision while you can. Having HON on your resume is not what it used to be, in fact, it is perceived as a negative by the outside industry.

I am a recent college grad who was chosen last year to come here after my internship (before finishing up my degree), so I think that's the only way I made it in.

But I agree... from all that has been said and done here (and compared to how it was years ago), this company is really taking a fall and trying to knock us out with it.

I do not know why they are even hiring newbies, because they don't have much work for me as it is and someone else who worked here for 3 MONTHS got laid off recently as well.

It's good to put on a resume, but otherwise, I am waiting to be taken down as well.

At this point I don't think a sell off of aerospace would be such a bad thing. I used to dread it now I welcome it even if it means short term pain. Hopefully the new owner would actually invest in the future and run the company better.

Aerospace doesn't have the obscene profits that "leadership" demands. It also requires that you have a highly trained work force to innovate and develop your products. Unfortunately those people usually want to be paid every week in dollars, instead of being paid for piecework in rupees or renminbi. I wonder how much cheaper a CEO in Bangalore would be? Meanwhile, our latest technology is sent overseas for short term deals. How many follow-on orders will there be for Irkut or Comac systems after we have taught them how to do it themselves? Then our pupils will take away our Boeing and Airbus business.

Selling off Aerospace SBG. Too little ROI - too much regulation. Aerospace was the reason the merger failed 10 years ago in the EU.
