Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

What is the layoff process?

What is the layoff process? Does HR come to your desk? How do they tell you? Do they allow you to collect your things? Do they come with a box or should I get my own just in case?

I didn't get a box from HR. I found one for printer supplies and dumped it and used it.

It just happened to a family member. 1 hour and he was done. After 15 years. And yet the stock soars! "&$&8&&/(:@:&:)/&/$/@/!

A Dad.

Look for the pile of cardboard boxes in your managers office....

Depends on your manager. Once you are told you are unemployed, the manager walks with you to your desk and watches your moves. I'd suggest saving and backing up everything and cleaning out the history now as a precaution. You won't have time and won't be thinking straight when it happens. Best wishes to everyone.

Jjrtry0 is exactly right. My manager didn't schedule a meeting though. Instead he just pinged me on lync and asked if I could talk for a sec. When he came to my desk instead of sitting down like he usually did, he stood there and said there was a conference room open for "us". I hate that you don't get to say goodbye. I really liked my job, and my manager and wish, I could have told all the people I worked with how awesome they were. In the end it was the people I worked with on 34th that kept me coming back. Not the job, definitely not the pay, it was the people. If you are selected please remember it is not because you are a bad engineer, a bad worker, or a bad person. On the engineering side of things I have been told that nowadays, layoffs are part of the experience of being an engineer, and I'll be lucky if this was the only one I'll ever have to go through.

Are you allowed to turn on computer to check emails the last time or not?

What if you take Tuesday off or work at home?

Or we all decide take every Tuesday as work at home day?

Typically happens on a Tuesday, your direct supervisor will schedule a 30-minute meeting with you in a CR along with HR to tell you that your position has been eliminated. HR will then rush through the severance agreement paperwork since they still have other people to kick out of the door (remember, they have other people to RIF after your 30-minute meeting). Then, you are required to sign a paper of your change in employer relationship (termination) which you will need for unemployment. You are required to turn in all company property in your possession (laptop, company phone, credit card, etc.) and you will be rushed to collect your things. There is a slight chance you may not get a box to pack your things (I've seen it happen before).
