I was accepted for the voluntary. Here is the timeline: Volunteered in July after the July 13 announcement and before the July 29 deadline for volunteers. No comunication or info from Honeywell or HR at all until I was notified that I was accepted, by email on Thursday, September 6. On Tuesday, September 13 an interview with HR was scheduled for Wednesday. Volunteers can work through Friday.

Yes, I got the email that I was accepted. It appears that most if not all of the indirect folks were accepted but none of the direct folks were. I am excited as I was planning on retiring at the end of this year at 65. One thing that bothered me was a long-term employee who had just celebrated her 50's anniversary with the company was denied VRIF. I know she is direct but I just thought they could do this for her as it made me feel bad about getting mine. The involuntary RIF here in Olathe is definitely Tuesday and could involve anywhere from 20 to 25 employees. The VRIF folks will get their exit interviews on Wednesday and it is my guess that we will then be asked to leave. I do feel sorry for those who are left - especially the direct folks who will have to take over so many new tasks/jobs. I must say that all the VRIF folks that got notified yesterday were very dedicated employees - all were close to retirement age or older. I also know that these folks had all their projects caught up and had diligently tried to cross-train their co-workers on how to carry on. Many really good employees are leaving.

I was also denied the RIF after volunteering. My HR representative came and told me that I was not selected, but if I wish I can remain on the list for future RIF occurrences. I received no email.

I also received an acceptance for the voluntary RIF. Action will take place after the non-volunteers are shown the door.

Very few people are being accepted for the voluntary. Two reasons: 1) They know that these people are close to retirement and if they piss them off enough will leave without expending the severance $'s. 2) there are SO many volunteering that it skews the number of older workers leaving in the RIF therefore Legal won't support it. Let's face it, the Voluntary layoff stuff is mostly a PR thing anyways.

To the previous comment, yes it is true. One of my coworkers received an email a few days ago with "No Subject" as the header and was asked to attend a meeting with his boss.

My coworker knows exactly what that means and has been happy coming to work ever since (since he volunteered, of course).
