Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

It's time

I am ready to unionize or set some kind of collective bargaining agreement. We have no represention on the table and I am starting to get sick of this s#it. I can leave, but the same will happen else where. I am ready to stand my ground. American workers need to come together once again. No one is going to help us unless we help ourselves.

The St. Charles plant had a Union, when the factory moved to Mexico, we got a max of 23 weeks severance, 23 weeks of insurance, and we were able to get NAFTA. BECAUSE we were UNION. Some people worked there over 45 years, yes 45. The office employees got screwed BIG TIME. Some were never given notice that they were out. They would show up for work, get taken straight to the office where all their stuff is sitting in Zerox boxes. "We eliminated your job, some one at the Hartford plant can do it."

I understand your frustration, but how's the union going for the employees at South Bend. They have been on lock out for several months.

So where were you when the locals of Honeywell were fighting for America against Cote's greed?

IBM employees including engineers tried a union -- Alliance@IBM for SIXTEEN years. You can read the sordid history here http://www.endicottalliance.org/ it was a local of the CWA (Communications Workers of America), part of the AFL-CIO, and it just was suspended a few months ago 'cause not enough people joined and they had no power. They DO have a Facebook group (shown on the site) where people post where and when they were Riffed. http://www.endicottalliance.org/ashrinkingibmusemployeepop.htm shows their shrinking US footprint.

Just keep collecting your paychecks and work at half your normal speed. Nothing extra, I'm not receiveing calls, or helping out in anyour way shape or form. No calls during lunch. No working late or starting early. It's time to slow down and play this hand.

the US GOVT has ZERO interest in preserving jobs. Why? Because poor people are easier to control and manipulate. As they get payoffs and bribes to sell their country out, they rise to the top 1% of those they claim to lament. Don't think this is the end of the line, it's only the beginning. The future of America is outsourcing and fewer and fewer American jobs. You can thank greed.

I think an engineers union would work. The bottom line is, they have contracts to fulfill and they absolutely depend on their workers to meet those obligations. At this point their demands are very one-sided, you will take this furlough/pay cut/benefits cut period and your only recourse is to pack your belongings and walk away. There needs to be a way to fight back other than quitting or getting laid off.

The down side: Union leadership taking gifts from the company. You will always be disappointed with your 1% raise even though the guys working next to you doesn't deserve to keep their job. Is everyone really prepared to go on strike for months at a time? I used to love working at Garrett. Free Turkey at Christmas, work life balance, respected "Good Friday" and holidays....

Can't wait to retire now....

I wish they would show up on the 31st location. I would sign up in a heartbeat this time. Things have changed significantly. In the past I said no tone the union. WE NEED UNION REPRESENTATION.

I hope everyone is blogging on their personal device. You can be legally terminated for using Honeywell owned laptops/PCs organize a union, even during non working hours. Social Media is more powerful than a union could ever be. You can be assured that Honeywell leadership and HR are reading these blogs to plan their strategies. Keep saying what you really feel. It doesn't have to be politically correct or even make sense to anyone but you. During the "Town-hall" meetings QA we only "Crickets" to the really tough questions.

Unions cannot prevent a RIF, they can only make sure that employees are laid off in seniority order. They do prevent all those little injustices that go on in a large company like Honeywell. I know it's easy to want a union when these things happen, but I can tell you it really breeds indifference in the work place. People that take pride in their work ethic will continue to do that and the lazy ones will continue to do that...
