Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Future?

I am not sure if i continue to stay and wait out till things get better or i go to another industry.

I honestly wanted to stay for another 10 yrs.

I am already here for 10 yrs. i enjoyed working with people at HW ; I have a very

good manager and so far has been great. I applied and got an interview today with another large company just because I do not feel our job is safe anymore due to constant threat of rif and furlough. I am 45. Do you think this environment is temporary? Shall I move on if I get an offer

DON'T WALK, RUN FROM THIS COMPANY!! There is no plan for the future. If the customers do come back, who is going to be left to produce them. Those remaining will be pushed to be more productive to a level that is unattainable.

Does anyone know when all the engine contracts are up for bid? Will Honeywell even attempt to win those contracts?

Volunteer for the RIF or just quit with no notice and tell Timmy baloney to go get f*cked. I spend at least an hour per day tailoring resumes to different companies. I will volunteer for the RIF, take my severance and leave. If they deny my application I'll quit with no notice. Maybe I'll just stop showing up, who knows.

I have a different tack for your consideration - get out of Aerospace industry entirely. Find a different commercial industry entirely; one that has a good technological breakthrough record over the past 5 years. Ride that wave - Aero is a stale paradigm. Been on both sides of this street and my other work experiences were very rewarding. If you're going for a change then while your mid-career find something you like and take the plunge! Enjoy life outside Honeywell - there IS life after layoff! Good luck :-)

What if you need to work for 20 or 30 more years rather than 10? Do you think you would either want to or could remain that long based on your skill sets and career goals? If the answer is "no," then pursue other career opportunities. You need to put yourself first.

At age 45, ten years of experience and band 3 I would say volunteer for the RIF, especially if you have scored an interview w another company You are young enough to have a full career ahead of you still and your ten years is not wasted! It's valuable experience that will serve you well in any other job. Be grateful you are young enough to be desirable to other companies. Those of us caught in band 4 and over 58 year old are gonna be screwed. Too young to retire and too old to build a new career- and no one is going to hire a 58+ year old at anything close to the salary they are making. That is what really s---s.

My advice is run from Honeywell. It's going to get way worse before (or a big IF) it gets better.

There is definitely a future in the industry, just not at Honeywell. Honeywell is not the whole aerospace industry.

If you get the option to leave you should because I don't see things getting better here.

I am band 3

and i was getting good review

and was hoping to gradually move up.

That is how it has been at least till now.

I learned a lot here from people with 30+ experience.

I was hoping that some day, I can become like them and become a key player. Even now I feel if I leave it is a big waste of knowldge since I gathered that over years.

That is why I resisted to stay hoping it get better. But it has got only worse.

One of two things, either leadership doesn't have a clue about the irreparable damage that they have done and are doing, or they understand fully and doing it intentionally. Either way, it doesn't bode well for the future of aerospace at Honeywell. The brain drain has been going on for a while now and there's a big knowledge gap between the 30-year guys they're forcing out and the 5-year guys with which they're hoping to fill cubicles. At 10 years you're stuck somewhere in the middle, difficult to say what side of the line you'll fall into.

Maybe they'll sell the division to a company or companies that cares about people and knows how to actually manage a business. I hope they know what an empty shell of an organization they're getting for their money.

If you're a band 4 I would leave. Maybe you can time it right and get the severance.
