There have been many posts about forming a union. Some think it is a good idea, some don't. I'm not really sure what it would accomplish for us in the long run anyway and it would be difficult to organize and start up. So I'm offering an idea of something that is very doable and would at the very least p!ss off leadership.
Let's run a full page ad in a major national newspaper. It could be a "Dear Dave" letter or something of the sort letting him know how we all feel about working for Honeywell and how the events of this year (3 furloughs, 2 RIF's, MIP decrease for band 4, no raises and now the remote worker policy) have made Honeywell an undesirable place to work. The real goal here would be to make it go viral across social media and reach all the college students that Honeywell is desperately trying to recruit. If you haven't noticed, we've had all these pay cut measures and RIF's, yet management is out recruiting in full force at universities across the country. Interns from this summer that management decided to extend an offer to upon graduation were offered a $5,500 CASH BONUS. Honeywell wants to get rid of us and replace us with young, cheap labor. Let's let these students know that Honeywell is NOT the company they want to work for.
Running an ad would be expensive. I haven't researched into it fully, but saw a figure of around $100,000 to run something in the NY times. If we can set up a gofundme site and get enough employees to donate a small amount, we could reach that figure. Would it be worth $5 or $10 to you to embarrass leadership at a national level?
If this post gets enough attention and seems like the idea is well received we can look at getting this started. Will need to set up the fundraising site and also get a letter drafted to run in the paper.
