Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

if your still working

if your still working and need short term disability forget it. honeywell has cigna under their thumb. the std policy is the toughest in the industry and hw threatens cigna with changing companies if they pay out any claims.

when you get a new job avoid cigna at all costs

I detest HW, but I am thankful that Cigna paid my short-term disability at 100% for 12 weeks while I sought help for my eating disorder earlier this year. Horizon Blue insurance is worthless garbage for treating mental health issues, but Cigna came through for me when I needed it.

Honeywell self-funds their health insurance program and Cigna simply manages it. So all medical bills are paid by Honeywell. This being said, you can see why Honeywell closely manages short-term disability. Case in point is the comment about not being approved for short-term disability due to taking narcotic pain medication. I know you cannot prohibit someone from working simply because they are taking pain medication. I also know that Honeywell policy is to try to accommodate employees with modified work for both work-related and non work-related injuries or illnesses.

Correction on the UTC comment. As structure goes, UTC, Connecticut General then Cigna. Back then, it was run very well. Never had any problems with claims.

Don't want to bring up too much stuff from the past, but did you all know that Cigna was a subsidiary of United Technologies back in the day? I left UTC for better pastures and then ended up paying them for my healthcare. Ah, what a country.

That is so true. I fought and fought for short term even though 2 of my doctors pleaded for my case. Through an one shot appeal, it was still a no go. I guess being at work with narcotic drugs making decision is better than paying out claims.
