Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

It's finally over

My last day in the office was Thursday ,I want to say that having this site available during the entire ESP process has been a big help. Just having a place where I could vent or rant a little helped me get thru the process.

Many of my questions were answered ,and the humor expressed by many helped.

Now if I can just stop looking for my smart badge every time I leave the house. I feel naked without it.

Congratulations and enjoy. I also used this blog to get some deadline and questions answered. It was a resource. I too am retiring.

To @IbwS9J8-blw: what you wrote exactly was what I had been feeling and can't put the finger on it to explain...... Thanks.

@1guy, Chevron wrote "The book" on office politics. I didn't have a read it either... I lived it.

I am lucky enough to retire - can afford it, but I am deadwood. I miss the routine. It takes a while to adjust to not having that. Sure, I have plenty of responsibilities and activities, but it's not quite the same. It's just like they say. The reason the weekend is special is because you worked all week. The reason fishing/golfing is special is because you can't do that everyday. It's not the same when it's no longer a treat, or special. Sure - it's plenty enjoyable, but still not the same.

You forgot "no more fat paycheck" when the severance runs out. No more 8% 401k match. No more pension benefit. I've been looking awhile and there is nothing out there comparable. So lower your expectations and maybe the stress will be lower at the next job to offset your decreased net. If you were lucky enough to retire, don't call me deadwood! I'm employed but not as well compensated.

No more micro stretch breaks, no more of those homey, I'm your friendly CEO emails from 'John', no more fighting traffic to and from work, no more getting up at 4:30 every morning, no more putting up with crap slogans about Human Energy, The Chevron Way, Tenants of Operation, Operational Excellence and OE Moments, no more working in a glass cage with no privacy, no more meaningless meetings to attend. Now is the ideal time to put all of your priorities in their proper perspective. I hope you have a supportive wife, if you are married. I am single and the kids are in their 30's.

I can tell you with utmost confidence that a fair amount of the "potty-mouth" children are not and have never been CVX employees. Just to let you know.

Best of luck.

Get ready for the ridicule, insults, sexual preference questions and pathetic 'potty mouth' children from current and former employees.

Its come to define the company unfortunately.
