Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron is disintegrating - another $5 billion asset would be sold

The Wall Street Journal cited Chevron is selling off $5 billion Asian Assets upstream operations.

This includes:

-- The joint offshore venture with the China state-owned company CNOOC Ltd. for $1 billion

-- Chevron has been marketing the sale of Indonesia geothermal energy projects worth over $2 billion

-- Chevron also plans to dump its natural gas fields in Thailand

Chevron released a statement saying its “strong portfolio of projects and robust strategic position in the Asia-Pacific region ensures we are well-placed to deliver on our business plans, grow profitably in core areas, and build new legacy positions in the region.”

Has Chevron's management ever taken responsibility for these project screw-ups? Angola, Big Foot, Gorgon....who has been held accountable?

1ord- The real test of chevron competence will be Wheatstone start-up. We won't have ExxonMobil and Shell helping us handle the hard problems like we have at Gorgon and Tenghiz. At Wheatstone, we are on our own. God help us. Our really big disasters are those projects we operate without help from other IOCs (ie BigFoot).

The Obama A$$-licker is most likely one and the same who another poster was pointing out, the type that everything that's good, they credit to Obarrassment, and everything bad, Bush, regardless of how remote the relationship is. The same types who would ignorantly give Obama credit for Bush's teams which had worked tirelessly for 10 years to ultimately result in the discovery of BIn Laden through the use of interrogation techniques which Obama voted AGAINST. That was in play well before Odumbo took office. Read a book, people. And the fact that he simply happened to be the sitting president (Key word here is "sitting") to give the Seals the "OK" means that he "Found Bin Laden". HA HA HA... Seriously, people?

PS, Government does not "CREATE" jobs other than government jobs - tax-payer funded. Get that through your thick skulls.

1rea - Your post is skin-crawlingly stupid. As to your assertion that Obama was, somehow, responsible for the increase in domestic production "during his administration",... here's a brain-twister for ya,... tell me, Einstein, just HOW did the skinny, Mr. Potato Head - Lookin' A$$ CLOWN OBAMA have ANYTHING to do with it? (Tapping my fingers, as I await your surgical insight, your deep intellectual response,...). Woops! Time's UP, Cupcake! Answer: Not a single BARREL of that increased production was due to the disgustingly G@Y POS, Obama! Perhaps you've heard of "shale production"? Through the timeframe in question, Mr. NSF Deep Thinker (I'll let YOU decipher what the "NSF" stands for,... I think you might figure it out), shale production, due primarily to rising crude prices, as an incentive, increased, dramatically (and the technology for extracting this production improved, right alongside). Barry The G@Y Clown, as usual, just took CREDIT for the increase, and morons, like YOU, s---ed it up. As to JW's "direct reports telling him what's happening in the world",... that'd just be the blind, leading the blind. Now, go cry yourself to sleep, Mary.

The management will explain it all away by saying it was because of low oil prices or it was Obama's fault. If it was Obama's fault, then why did U.S. O&G production roughly double during his administration? And Watson said as of Oct. 2014 that he was not concerned about low oil prices. Less than two years later the company is collapsing. Maybe he's not paying close attention to what's happening in the world. Maybe his direct reports should tell him.

@1ord, Chevron is (almost) done for the same reason you cited, for having the company run by incompetent people. As much as I side with your opinion, I still think the company will survive. Too bad it will come out being a weaker or smaller company in the end.

Chevron is done. There are consequences for having the company run by incompetent people.

@IJqPM9W-kal , When you learn English grammar and spelling, could you please re-post that so that you appear at least half literate ? Until then, don't expect anyone to take you seriously. Thanks.

Y'all are acting like these asset sales are new. They were planned prior the to oil price crash...maybe accelerated a bit and additional assets put on the block to reach the target...but they are nothing new.

IJqPM9W-jtz...now I get what the troll is up to, your holding a short on Chevron. Explains a lot as too all your stupid posts and why your so persistent! Hate to tell you that, unlike Enron employees a few years back, most Chevron employees do not tend to have big holdings of our own stock, so your unlikely to make much of a move with your trolling here.

Dividend maintenance is all in the eye of the stock owner. Own CVX stock and it's THEE priority... and you know that the BoDs and JW have a bunch of it that needs "dividend" feeding.

I'm thankful for it, but pay-out on my severance (and thousands of others laid off from CVX books) had to come from some where.

And...look on the bright side, at least JW will able to keep his golden toilet seat for another quarter! I'm going to start keeping my eye out on eBay for it just in case....LOL.

I hope they can sell those assets soon and get all $5B. The Board of Directors declared a dividend of $1.07 on July 27, 2016 for shareholders of record date Aug 19, payable on Sep 12, 2016.

All these asset sales and employee layoffs are for one damn thing only; to pay the friggin' dividend. It's not sustainable anymore, folks. Sell your CVX stock soon after the Aug 18 ex-dividend date.
