OP, first off... Administrative Assistants get the mundane office tasks done for relatively cheap hourly pay, so I don't have a problem with them or the company keeping most of them around. Someone has to do it. Lastly, I take a much different point than you on the employees you refer to as "having made it". What gives you the smugness to even think that anyone with a long career in Chevron has "made it" and should be cleared out of the way to make room for (I guess it's your point) YOU? It's little conceited runts like you that think you ought to have a chance now? You have to earn it, pal. Once you do, I'm sure you'd see things in a different light and wouldn't have to make remarks like that. Your view, however, leaves me with the impression that you are insecure for a myriad of reasons... like maybe being young and inexperienced, under educated, a slacker on the job, or one of those entitled liberals looking for a handout.

@IJeiKZQ - It's likely that you're an X-generation or a millennial. You are correct that CVX has (had) a large population of folks in legitimate early retirement range...and few beyond. Part of this was created by a decade plus of not hiring, there-by creating an ill-porportioned age demographic. Like me, I can state that a lot of those whose positions were posted in the last ESP, took advantage of a 1 yr salary equivalent severance.

To suggest however that long service employees need to go so younger employees can remain violates Federal Equal Opportunity Laws (age discrimination)...not to mention that the typical Horizon employee still doesn't have the experience to run a BU, even though that program promised all they would manage the company in 10 years.

In regard to your crappy top manager, she obviously has "the eye" of her boss(es). Not justifying her behavior, but check out the post in this site (Clint Eastwood....) to see comparisons on CVX being overly PC. If you have true harassment issues, I recommend you take them up with HR, but realize that HR is there for the company's benefit, not yours. In short, have your ducks in a row!

It is safe to assume that this site is monitored by CVX. It is also doubtful they have any ability to do anything with what is stated as long as individual's names aren't used. As was seen in a recent post regarding a GOM PGPA employee, as soon as her name was mentioned, the entire post disappeared. Therefore, somebody in the Internet Illuminati is monitoring?

Trolls are always around on this site chiding those who post anonymously, but they do the same. Best advise to all readers and responders is to just don't feed them with a counter on their random insults.

OP --- Totally agree with your comments regarding a bullying admin, as I have experienced that, myself. The answer, I'm afraid, simply defies logic, but in my experience, is due to a sad psychological need, on the part of the manager, for sympathy, empathy, or ego-stroke the admin evidently provides. The only word that suffices in such matters is, pathetic, but c'est le vivre, huh? You live with it, muchacho.
