Your all right and wrong. I work for Avaya. Tech for 20 years or more. We get full severance regardless but they offer packages every few months. Lotta of the 30 year or more techs need to take package. Telephony world changed 15 years ago and a lot refused to change. Mismanagement is at an all time high. Idiots at the top. Competing against BP'S now to get business back. Dumbest mistake ever. Great products. ...no people who know the products. Innovatia is a joke out of Canada. Nice decision there huh?

Just curious.... Who are these techs with CCNAs and 104 weeks of severance being discussed here? Are they BBEs from GSS or SEs from Sales or consultants from APS or product engineers from product house?

If a tech is laid off he gets the severance, there is no way around it. A good majority will get 104 weeks pay and start collecting their pension while they receive the severance.

In fact for the past decade Avaya has been offering voluntary force reduction first with the same severance package. I

Avaya has had a limited number of techs for years now, most are Cisco CCNAs who will have no problem finding another job. Most techs are working a lot of OT.

If these are Avaya employees commenting then they are clueless to the rules that pertain to the union techs.

The union guys still get 100% Avaya paid Medical/dental and vision and Avaya just renewed the contract a few months ago.

To those that are asking "Why sell now?" There is a good chance we can get more from the sale of intellectual property and assets than we could of actually selling the data equipment like we have. If We can get, say, $1.5B from the sale of a few assets, then it could put Avaya back on track to pay its debts and turn this place around with a focus on enterprise telephony.

Regarding the comment that the techs get 2 years severance....Avaya has slowly been moving to more contractors and outsourcers for tech work instead of unionized employees. I'm wondering if this is a way to avoid that severance.

why buy it now? wait until it goes under and then pick it up in a fire sale....

Forget about profits...Dont forget 6 billion debt...First payment of 600 millions due October 2017....They will surely sold out soon...Most of the comments here are from Avaya employees.

LOL, my guess is not one person commenting here even works for Avaya.

First of all almost all the techs have 2 years of severance pay via their union contract.

If you think avaya is mismanaged today you definitely weren't around for AT&T /Lucent or when Avaya was a publicly traded company

Oddly enough Services is the most profitable sector of Avaya

The C-levels have always had Golden Parachutes. It used to be in stock, but the recently voted themselves all cash payouts on any change of control - like a sale, divestiture, etc. Those guys are set The lower level execs also have big bonuses tied to performance which is why they continue to take cost out through layoffs, travel restrictions, etc.

That could be the game plan here - Try to sell maximum parts of the company in FY16 and get the huge performance bonuses for FY16. Then declare bankruptcy in FY17, bail out with huge severance packages and let the debt take its natural course.

will the execs still get a payoff end of this year if data and ipo are sold off this year and rest of the company files chapter 11 next year?

What an idiot. Anyone who is so far out of the loop as to what is actually happening here is destined to be eliminated - and rightly so. This is exactly the type of detached, disengaged employees that Avaya so desperately needs to jettison. In the upcoming spin-off, you and people like you will be summarily dismissed - hopefully without any severance, as you have failed to demonstrate any value to the company.

Apple have just confirmed they are buying Avaya, Confirmed. This is not a rumor, it is a fact. And if you believe that then you believe the other crap on here. This is all nonsense. Avaya are up for sale but what company in there right mind would take on any part of it, the whole business is built on outsourcing it's people and it's technology, the amount of IP that is owned by other companies that Avaya needs to buy back is unreal, the contracts are written in such a way to remove the liability from Avaya but any potential buyer does not get furnished with the supplier contracts that show Avaya doesn't actually own half of what it sells. Jim, Kevin, Amy and Dave have set themselves up for a really nice payment at the end of the financial year, they are making a number of stupid short term decisions to ensure they hit there EBITDA targets for FY16 and they all walk away with their bonus check, FY17 becomes someone else's problem even though those who have already accepted the severance package such as their CPO are making decisions that affect the company for a time when they know they won't be here. It is such a mismanaged company, All business ethics are ignored once you get to a senior level, if this was a public company there would be some serious questions asked..........there are a lot more cuts to come, FY17 budgets will be cut by 20%, and all your jobs will be outsourced to lower cost economies along with the core IP of the company so anyone that does buy Avaya buys very little as the core competencies have all been outsourced. You may buy the technology but it's Avaya's suppliers who hold the knowledge.
