Don't think it is intentional but rather HR incompetence. If they list your last day as the actual last day you work you will not get paid for that day. The last day needs to be the first day you don't work. Also make sure you look up vacation and triple check with you manager and HR rep that they write the value down on your exit check list and get a copy. Again they just forget to ask and add to system. Terrible HR support, would be more accurate if you could complete your own separation paperwork. The ultimate in self serve support.
Print everything last paystub, , vacation accrual from time workbench, rewards and recognition , midyear and final annual review. By the way you can tell who are on the NDA's already because they act like they haven't heard anything .
