Pray you don’t get laid of this coming round. I have heard friends in Houston and other areas that are able to land jobs (not saying it’s easy), but in Calgary nobody is hiring. Friends in HR tells me for an engineering job, she gets 600 minimum resumes up to 2000 on other intermediate level engineering jobs. People I’ve spoken to are starting to lose hope. For those already laid off, I recommend you try harder and find something before this next wave saturates the market even more.

Outplacement was good until a former HR women who worked there came into the seminar one day and asked why we were still there, since there was so many jobs out there. None of us were former HR or Sales people, so she wrecked the entire positive mood of the session.
Everyone is willing to move but nobody will take us. I was lucky I found something in BC, but I know the stimga of non-O&G organizations have towards O&G workers. It's quite sad really.
@oma: you're exactly right. Be prepared to leave Calgary and oilfield, at least temporarily
Who knows, those who leave may like it enough not to come back
If you are in Calgary, be willing to move. There are jobs outside oil and gas. If another boom starts, one can always come back.
The outplacement services are dogshit, its just as well you were on your own
There are jobs out there, just need to dig harder, network more, they can be found.
Unless you're one of those who existed the last few years your skills will be recognized
If you get laid off, use the outplacement services if offered. They provide connections not available to you on your own.
