Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Let's say that today's VSP's become tomorrow's ISP's

What are the odds that the no-rehire clause is attached to them? Assume that all non-taken VSP's convert to ISP's.

I'd like to think that they'd rehire these people like they would with people who took the VSP. But they do seem to be warning very strongly that the next package won't be like this one. Could this be one of those differences?

Thoughts?

Not all managers are bad. A lot just have their hands tied.

My manager doesn't want me to leave. But if one has some true top performers then what do you do.

"If you received a VSP, you better improve your focal or you will gone."

That primarily involves improving one's manager.

Good performance / bad manager = bad focal

OK performance / good manager = good focal

That ISP could really sick

And it could come june3

Intel could save 100k with me getting minimum ISP.

It's one option of my post VSP plan – to go back after 1 year and milk that cow for another 2 or so. Years that is, not millions :-) Why not? Just using the same mercenary attitude they use now. Assuming of course there's much to go back to, but I have a feeling that won't be the case!

I heard that the Intel HR people are telling reference-seekers that this layoff was a lot different because good people were let go. Don't worry about the reference; enjoy the ISP payout and don't look back.

If you received a VSP offer for whatever reason it means they want you to GTFO. If you want to stay long term then your next focal better be O/E with a promotion or your next package will be ISP. In 2013 members of my group were offered VSP. One took it. None of the rest of us really changed our behavior or looked at it for what it was. In 2014 another was given an ISP (he was an a--hole anyway and should have been fired years before. He was accused of doing something wrong deliberately but they couldn't prove it.) Again the rest of us ignored the warnings. In 2015, the rest of us received the ISP. 4 people offered VSP in 2013, all 4 gone in 2 years.

If you received a VSP, you better improve your focal or you will gone.

Ok fine let's settle this. Don't take vsp on rehire (but don't over look friends in management places)

Weigh the risk of vsp now and ISP future payout

Next ISP could be just 6weeks pay and 3months cobra

That's about 12k in med and 15-25 weeks of extra pay

For me that is a total of slight over 100k

Now do the math vs reward. Do you feel lucky

Agree that diversity is now more important than skill, making much of this moot.

I do know 3 former VSPs who were rehired. Managers like having an Intel history on you that they can look up. So I'd say a VSP does have benefits, if you even want to work here after all this.

Whether you can be rehired or not, if you don't meet the definition of diversity, you probably will not be rehired.

@Hqw4lqE-pnt While that's a cool story and all, have you ignored that PSO or Andy or Craig isn't running Intel anymore? We now have a sociopath running the show propped up by a passive aggressive fat English man that has absolutely no business leading HR? Sure, people that left came back under the Intel of Andy or PSO. Not under the rule of self loathing sociopaths like BK and Richard Taylor.

Pay attention. People that got offered VSP are viewed EXACTLY the same as Low Performers that got ISP. There is no difference in the offers. If you are smart enough to have been hired and survive any time at Intel, surely you can't be this dense as to see the facts.

There are many reasons to take VSP over ISP. The delusion of being rehired in a year by some manager that loves you and can bring in a person that was asked to leave and most certainly does not help fulfill the goals of diversity, is not one of them.

Who cares what these ignorant/clueless bozos/losers INTEL Inside executive and low level managements are thinking... They are losers/bums big time.

Who asks for rehiring? Me? NEVER! I'll rather NEVER get employed ever. With my exit, they already have and WILL have millions of $$ USD loses. They should. They think they are Gods. And they can treat people as dirt. Not really. Nah. :-)

I really do NOT understand people bragging about their VSPs, and looking forward to be employed by these jokes/idiots. Hey! Do you all have any dignity, left in you???

I'll wait it out for either ISP or to stay if I am lucky. The worst case is to get ISP LATER, which might actually be better than VSP NOW. In any case the last thing you should think about is being rehired. It is your wishful thinking that VSP would be perceived better than ISP.

You have worked for Intel for a long time and are used to everything there, so you don't want to leave if you do not have to. I can understand that. What I don't understand is that you are still thinking about going back after being fired. Hey, wake up and have some self-respect and look for a better life for yourself.

For all the "they'll never hire back a VSP" talk, I know several people who have taken VSPs and come back to Intel. The most direct route was coming back to your old manager 1.5 years after the VSP and they take you back, a more indirect but perhaps less humiliating route is doing a stint as a green badge and getting converted at the end of its term... I know an OWG who did that in his fifties.

@wme I'm a bit more optimistic than you are, I believe they'd rehire VSP's because I don't think they tag you with anything that identifies you as a former VSP. So if a FLM falls in love with you then you're good. I concede that my opinion is just that, and I can't say that you're wrong with any certainty - they absolutely might never rehire a VSP, or they may adjust hiring away from VSP-type people (really, they already have).

But it's interesting to see if they hang a "no rehire" tag on people who otherwise wouldn't have gotten it. And looking at the unemployment figures in other threads, VSP vs. ISP is just a couple hundred a week before taxes and for a limited time. Better than nothing, but not all that much. I'd prefer the VSP.

@epi I think they do tell other employers your rehire eligibility status. They won't say why (ISP or behavioral), but I've heard from many people "in the know" who say it's given if asked for.

I gave decades to this company, weekends, night, overnight 48 hours in the fab, I often took calls on vacations and in time zones when it was 4am or 2am in the morning.

Got shown the door with no time collect my things in my cube. Left a ton of stuff that a nice co-worker had to bring back to me. My boss and bosses boss who I knew for decades, they didn't give a $hit. THey were happy they continue to get their big paycheck.

Nope I won't come back to this company, with how things are going I think 1274 will do the same to BK!

If you fear losing money by passing on VSP now and in future they reduce ISP, taking VSP makes sense.

But don't take VSP because you think they might hire you back. They ain't.

they could ISP us on June3 give only 6 weeks salary and 3 month cobra vs 12months.

that's quite the risk. The savings in medical I assume is about 12k.

And then a loss of ~15-20 weeks of salary.

If I was Intel and had to layoff people and be punished I would give the minimal ISP required by law.

What's a low risk taker to do?

@Hqw4lqE-eal Intel doesn't say anything to anyone. If someone calls about a "reference" (they don't), Intel's policy is to simply provide the dates that someone was employed. They don't comment any further beyond that.

If a prospective employer asks you, you say you left the company given all the changes.

This isn't complicated.

Why anyone thinks that the Intel run by Dick Taylor and BK is going to rehire a VSP is baffling to me. Every exec reminds their teams in all the Open Forums and QGS meetings that those that have been offered VSP should strongly consider it, that they are stagnant, and that they are borderline low performers.

The Intel of Dick Taylor and BK is not rehiring ANYONE that was offered ISP, VSP, or ERP. Not in a year, not in 5 years, not ever.

The "rehire" clause is a red herring attempting you to think that VSP is better than ISP. When the reality is that ISP is a better package. Monetarily they are EXACTLY THE SAME. Exactly.

With ISP you get to apply for unemployment and you don't have to sign all your rights to Intel.

With VSP, I can be rehired in a year, but you sign away all your rights to Intel and you can't get unemployment.

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE REHIRED. BK AND DICK TAYLOR DON'T WANT YOU. THEY WANT YOU GONE. YOU ARE NEVER WORKING A DAY AT INTEL AGAIN.

Look, if you say you want VSP today so you can get ahead of the others that will lose jobs, I can understand that. But saying you want VSP and you don't want to risk ISP because you think you might get rehired, you are completely batshit delusional. DELUSIONAL.

If you got VSP offer, you are old, you make a lot of money, and you most certainly don't help Dick Taylor get the diversity numbers he wants. Why in the world you think you will ever be rehired in insanity. They want you gone, in a year, you'll be the same gender, the same color, and you'll be 1 year older.

I can't be more clear, Intel is never hiring you back. This isn't opinion. This is fact. You are an old, expensive, stagnant, and likely white male. Adding a year to your age ain't improving any of these hurdles. You are falling into their BS trap even thinking that is a benefit of taking VSP. It's meaningless. Completely, totally meaningless. They might as well have written "If you take ISP, you cannot be CEO of Intel, but if you take VSP, you can't be hired as CEO of Intel in the next 12 months without repaying your prorated amount of the severance package."

so worth noting. In a previous vsp, they had some people sign a no-hire clause, and other not. The others were told they could be rehired. But after they took the vsp, that changed and they were marked to not rehire... I know one person who did manage to get rehired anyway, but it took several levels of management to override. So the reality is, nothing is set in stone.

I doubt they will rehire anytime soon. Anyway the next ceo may disregard or cancel the no rehire clause. Other than the humiliation of the no rehire clause I wouldn't be that concerned with it either way
