That statement was the old Intel. It's not that way anymore. Everybody looking out for themselves is the way it is now!!

What sort of idiots actually start a statement with "oh please". Can you imagine trying to talk to the person and hearing "oh please" every 10 seconds. This is the new kind of annoying idiot that will be working at what is left of Intel.

This person obviously knows nothing about chip process tech.

Oh Please! when Intel gets rid of all those dirty factories and the wierdos who work there. Intel will become the next Google! Why bother making chips.

Oh please! Every single person let go was not irreplaceable. Sure, we lost some talent but it's not like the ISP/VSP and ER people were individually and single handedly responsible for the utmost critical tasks and processes. It will be fine. The rest of you need to get over yourselves and realize that we're all just cogs in a wheel. There is no special snowflake. Upstream designs grinds to a halt because those people got the walk. Now it's time for the downstream people to take long coffee breaks.

It is clear that the first round of cuts is purely focused on cutting costs and not changing the strategic direction of the company. That will be evident when projects are cut.

Unfortunately, the chaos, confusion, fear and fallout from the cuts will cripple Intel for some time.

The Chinese better keep buying data center servers at high margins or it's gonna be tough...

Well, the majority of people left at Intel are those very good at fooling managers (created fancy foils or stole from somebody, not doing real work). I really can't blame them, they took advantage of stupid managers, and that goes all the way to the top. As long as BK is in charge, Intel will only continue to deteriorate further, unfortunately.

Birdie is telling me that many CPU architects and Micro Architects were let go - ISPed and many a projects have come to a standstill.

This is what happens when you let lawyers and accountants take over a tech company. This will be an MBA case study of what not to do in the future

Intel got rid of some really talented people. The one's that are left are just sheltered by their managers. Managers that will protect them to no end. That is the name of the game and that is why Intel has lost so big. If they would just check Facebook, people enjoying time with others, managers attending their favorite employees birthday party. People spending Intel money out of control, flying business class etc.. and posting it. It's all about who you know, NOT what you know.

Intel need to shrink in people and size, but the way they should have done it is by organizations and segments that are losing money. If you have been in business for 5 years and you can't make money, VP down you should have been laid off and Intel needs to get out of the business. Period!!!

This one off person picked from a group is not going to moving the needle.

VPs and Directors are paid so much money, this is where the big dent in big companies like Intel really happen. They have not addressed the Elephant in the room, that is for sure.

Any questions this is an HR lead algorithmic driven layoff defined to cut numbers irrespective of department, function, strategic importance of skills, etc. etc.

They wanted a quick and dirty way to show wallstreet progress and get HC down so indicators can look like they got a plan. The reality is some functions are so bloated, others so overworked and both are being cut equally if the focal was done equally. Thus fat useless organizations where people come in at 9 and leave at 4 will still have too may people, others like where I work people come in at 7 or earlier and stay till 7 and go home and work till 1am 7 days a week lose people too and have to do more.

The strong management chain would pack kick out the useless organization or force management to cut 50% and spare the ones critical ones or add people to them in the "new strategic thrusts"

Why this doesn't happen is senior leadership can't ask their "friends" to fire 1/2 of their staff nor do they know enough to do it themselves.

So HR lead leads to gut the organization... a disaster has happened

These managerial ugly blokes burnt from 2001 $10B USD in networking, total failure. Another miss from 2006 till now, these managerial ugly blokes burnt another $10B USD in mobile. In total $20B.

Yet, expect another miss wtih IOT. Another $10B USD. Make it twice ($20B), adding 5G miss. Monkeys stay monkeys, donkeys stay donkeys, INTEL management stays INTEL management. all the way. :-)

Yep. The mgmt never appreciated these hundreds of thousands of daily tasks that et done. Now they are left to do them and will not have a clue what to do.
