Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Will I end up as the oldest person at Intel :)

63 years old with 9+ years at Intel. Did 5 years as a contractor before that. Consequently everyone assumes I was eligible for the enhanced retirement but I wasn't. Nor was I offered a VSP.

Virtually everyone I know over 60 is taking the retirement package. I was already intending to leave Intel next year and had I gotten the retirement package I would have grabbed it with a smile on my face.

My point, if I have one, is so much of this is arbitrary and based on a computer algorithm. I now have an extra account to take care of 11% less support staff and wild rumors flying around me making it impossible to work.

BK - If you're listening my hand is raised. I would take a package - any package.

But the flip side is that I am concerned that my last year at Intel will be a very hard and stressful one. Hell even before this I was old and cranky and ready to tell anyone to kiss my ass Now?

I know - gallows humor. But really, I am envious of my co-workers asked to "retire". I fear they are better off than I will be.

Actually I have been at the same grade level since the day I got the blue badge 9 years ago :)

My career has been consistent: same grade level, only 1 job change, SL3 every year except one SL2. It's a boring story, I know.

Because you haven't been in grade long enough to be identified in their stupid scoring as slow. I hear it is time in grade and not an above average for so many years are the criteria. Basically if aren't running faster and faster every year BK doesn't want you. Doesn't matter if you are 28, 48, or 58, the basic criteria is you aren't getting positive message.

It'll be interesting what the focal will be next year. Will the managers practice "rotation" look at all the average people and decide I can't lose these people and use some of the limited quota of positive ratings and stock and rotate. Thus look at the population and make sure everyone gets a positive message every few years.. LOL

Re: Converting green badge time to time as an employee. I only found out last year that this was possible and contacted HR. For months they claimed they only had me listed as having contracted once at Intel and it was for less than a year. Finally the truth came out - they only kept records back 10 years. I contacted the agencies I worked for - most of whom also only had records back 7 - 10 years. There was some talk of trying to get proof from former managers that I had contracting years but in the end HR would not help and I dropped it.

"63 years old with 9+ years at Intel. Did 5 years as a contractor before that."

Did you become a blue badge immediately after some of your green badge time? If so, some of that time should count towards your retirement vesting. I was a green badge for 18 months and converted to a blue badge. My retirement vesting date (which includes RSU vesting acceleration) is approximately 18 months before my hire date. You might check with HR to see if you are eligible for the additional retirement vesting time. I had to ask to get the extra time credit - it wasn't automatic. Also, the HR person I talked to wasn't familiar with Intel's policy about green badge time counting towards retirement vesting (it's covered in the pay and benefits handbook). But they looked into it and agreed that I was eligible and adjusted the dates to accurately reflect my retirement vesting date.

"You'll wish you had some of that dog p--p if you get canned and get sick with no insurance. Say goodbye to everything you own. That's the Republican plan."

Before becoming a blue badge a few years ago I was a green badge and purchased my own medical insurance. I considered leaving Intel last year and picking up my own insurance again. However the rate for the policy I used to have has doubled since Obamacare kicked in to over $1100/month. Retiring before Medicare is available (age 65) is very expensive now. I'm also 63 (not the OP) with several years of previous green badge time at Intel. I'm waiting until I'm 65 or I get an ERP, whichever comes first. In the meantime I'll do my job well, but I won't be working any more 80 hour weeks. I've done that and know from experience that it isn't appreciated or even noticed.

I was offered VSP/ERP. SSL3 first time this low!

I am female, 67 years old, non-white. With me gone, perhaps you are "it". SSL3 first time this low!

63 at Intel and you have not receive a (you must take) Voluntary Separation Package before this.

Not meant to be insulting but get out now with all you can take. The retirement package is meaningless.

In my 16+ years I have yet to see someone actually retire with 75 points unless they get a VSP.

Take it and move on. Live your life in peace and happiness.

The facts are that most people approaching retirement age, CAN NOT RETIRE!

They will work to support their day to day lives for the rest of their lives.

OP you do realize that your numbers are unique and that you are outing yourself on thelayoff.com

You are literally the only guy 63 years old with 9+ years at Intel who did 5 years as a contractor before that

In contrary (to others), I would suggest to you to stay until as far as you can get. No VSP, no ISP offered to you, do not be paranoid. You will live up to June 24th, then another round of layoffs will be done. Sans/without you even as possibility. Then... It will be quiet till April, 2017. Then another candidates will be set to go (another 10K, my best guess).

I guess, you are safe to wait another year, so lean back, breathe, and do your job relaxing style. Does not matter what will come on Focal 2017, since you are anyhow out (even, you can then choose the best option for you). :-)

I guess you have to wait for the medical. You can get Obama care for cheap. It will be around long enough to get you to medicare. Republicans will destroy any health care but you should be OK.

63 + 9 = 72. That's why I wasn't offered the retirement. I received an SL 2 a few years ago - maybe that's the reason for no VSP.

I will leave soon enough but there are some compelling reasons to wait at least to the 1st of the year and if I make it till next March I hit 10 years and get an extra year's RSUs. That'll probably be the end.

But I have no intention of working hard or dying at Intel (which I have seen happen to a couple of colleagues). I don't think I can deliberately do a lousy job but I would be lying if I said I worked hard anymore.

Best time to coast to the finish line. Just take as much medical leave as you want, they can't fire you for that. If they do, you can sue and get $$$.

Fxck 'em. Do a sh--ty job on purpose (esp Q4/Q1), get the VSP offer and leave. Just make it a game to see how bad you can do.

Here's some tips :)

He is not eligible. If offered vsp or isp go. If not hope you live long enough for retirement. You can retire with 62 or older social security or die at Intel. Your choice

Not eligible for VSP. Leave before you die at Intel.

Your age plus years at Intel = 75. Contract does not count. Do the math. Your 63, take vsp and retire. Screw Intel. Don't wait to retire after your dead.
