63 years old with 9+ years at Intel. Did 5 years as a contractor before that. Consequently everyone assumes I was eligible for the enhanced retirement but I wasn't. Nor was I offered a VSP.
Virtually everyone I know over 60 is taking the retirement package. I was already intending to leave Intel next year and had I gotten the retirement package I would have grabbed it with a smile on my face.
My point, if I have one, is so much of this is arbitrary and based on a computer algorithm. I now have an extra account to take care of 11% less support staff and wild rumors flying around me making it impossible to work.
BK - If you're listening my hand is raised. I would take a package - any package.
But the flip side is that I am concerned that my last year at Intel will be a very hard and stressful one. Hell even before this I was old and cranky and ready to tell anyone to kiss my ass Now?
I know - gallows humor. But really, I am envious of my co-workers asked to "retire". I fear they are better off than I will be.
