Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

ding, ding, ding, get ready for round 2 and 3

If you're an Intel employee with half a brain you've already realized that number of people cut is no where near the announced cuts of 12,000. I'm a former Intel employee and I had dinner with an Intel manager last night who confirmed that this is just the beginning.

Now that the first rounds of ejecting people with low stock or weak performance last year are nearing completion its time for round 2. If you have been offered a VSP you need to be looking for a job now. Collect your paycheck as long as you can but it will most likely be an ISP for you before the end of the year.

There are a whole host of parameters that they are using to cull the next round of heads. It all depends on how many take the VSP to dictate how they will cut next time. There are all sorts of tricks up their sleeves. They will use things like being stagnant at your pay grade for a number of years and all sorts of innocuous things that you won't be expecting as criteria to toss you out.

You should expect the ax to keep falling all year and into the next.

Same here!!! This will not stress me or my family anymore.. I will stay working but doing the bare minimum as I am an honest person at the en of the day and I am getting paid to do a job. on the same token, not worth to give the "extra" mile if at the end it will not be rewarded or your job will be given to the H1b right in your face after 19 years of hard labor. sooo, welcome to the new Intel, GPTW"for me it will" ;)..

Let the Hb1's now work hard and kill each other building their pyramids schemes like sharks and i will just sit back and enjoy the ride at their expense until my time comes.

I don't know what BK and management were thinking? They should have clean the house firmly and not just "wound" your spirit thinking we would just leave in panic mode because we got VSP or work 2 time harder from now on..

The Hb1 think they are pretty smart and a hot ticket item which some of them are and God bless their souls BUT, they have seen nothing yet as far as milking the cow the right way... See you guys at the Cafeee..

We have so many taking ERB along with the ISP's that we'll have 1 or ZERO techs on shift to sustain the site ( Corporate Services). We have MLOA's pending and sabbaticals and have nobody left to fill the holes for even bare bones staffing. I got VSP and will milk it for another year until they ISP me. The dept manager is offering somewhat of a lateral move to fill an exempt spot if I want it. At least I'd get off nights for a while and sleep normally, along with some skills building for the resume'. Planning for the final firing, but taking what's left until then. Still greatly enjoy what I do and the people. They are simply terrific people...cherished friends not just coworkers.

I'll put in half-assed effort until I can find something else. That's what these jokers deserve.

Agree is milking time also for me, I tell my boss I am working from home when i am really hitting Santa Cruz beach and other beaches at Intel's dime. Why should BK and Murthy be the only ones that don't do $hit.

NM had more 'heart' than any other intel site, those folks bled blue blood, may God bless you all.

I think everyone in New Mexico realizes the site is hanging on by a thread, and I know of a LOT of retirement eligible people there that are taking the wise course.

For decades the NM site was a wafer work horse without a lot of drama. You've done great there folks. Now it's time to take the best you can get and hopefully move on to a better spot in your life

From what I've seen in New Mexico, the ERP acceptance rate is surprisingly high. The site will be losing a lot of experience and not just dead wood. This should get interesting.

@ bgp.. Daaamn .. not a bad advice after all. I got my VSP early last week and was in panic mode for the first 4 days as if my life was over after 20+ years at Intel and have been considering very seriously to just take it and get it over with but you know what, this one is on them as I have been a hard and dedicated employee all this time so if they want me out they better kick me out as I will stay and milk this sh.t out like if there is no tomorrow like you well said it! thank you..

If you got offered VSP, just start looking for a new job and update your stuff but why bail out now if you can still get full salary in the mean time while doing your research for your next chapter at Intel expense ! If they come back and force an ISP on you, then grab the package and move on but why leave before that?

I agree that it is not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when" so just play it smart in the mean time and just be ready...

At least in this way you have a better plan, you will have at least few more months of full salary, benefits,..etc , you will qualify for unemployment , and it may be the case that they don't convert your VSP to ISP anytime soon so why hurry? Let the RSU's mature more and also more years in services for a better compensation..

You know what, screw them, if they want to treat you like this and dispose of you at the end, then just milk it until the last minute but don't bail now and get short changed ;)..

Yes BK, you heard me right, I will still do my job but my loyalty, my heart, and my motivation is gone so it is milking time my friend.. I will let the H1B's do the work and fight like piranhas for the left over but I will chill out and enjoy the ride while it last..

So Yes - if you were offered VSP, you should take it or get your sh-- together. You just got a message that you're next.

FYI - early indications are that people aren't accepting the VSP and ERP packages at a rate high enough to even come close to the 12K. HR screwed up (unsurprisingly) with not making the packages attractive enough. Managers are defending their projects and claiming that their organization's work is oh so important, and tying their projects to a material ROI and yadda, yadda, yadda. Basically, this game makes it difficulto tell what should get cut. This means they ultimately WILL have to cull from the VSP pool. That's the only logical (and legally safe) thing they can do (other than broad stroke org and project cuts).

Watch out for forced "improvement plans". This is an additional methodology which will be pulled out of the managerial toolbox. These improvement plans will be nearly impossible to complete satisfactorily per the given milestones. The employee will reason that the VSP would have Ben the better option. Get on your high horse and begin looking for a new career.
