Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Aerospace Division Furlough June 27 thru July 3, 2016

Here is the full email from T. Mahoney, received today 5/25/16 10:01 PDT:

MESSAGE FROM THE AEROSPACE LEADERSHIP TEAM (TIM MAHONEY)

Mass Email received on May 25, 2016, 10:01 PDT

Dear Colleague:

Honeywell continues to experience the effects of a slow-growth global economy, further compounded by a slowdown in certain Aerospace-related business segments. In addition, there have been more than 30,000 job reductions throughout the Aerospace and Defense industries in the last year, along with continued earnings volatility.

Although we are seeing growth in some parts of the business and have gained efficiencies through technology enhancements and improved execution, we continue to face significant headwinds that require us to further optimize our cost structure. While the actions we take are always difficult, unfortunately we have made the decision to implement a second quarter furlough and cancel our 2016 merit increase program.

Furlough

Aerospace will conduct an unpaid work shutdown, or furlough, in the United States and Puerto Rico as follows:

· All employees will be required to take one full work week of furlough as defined by payroll. The furlough will begin at 12 a.m. on June 27 and will run through 11:59 p.m. on July 3, 2016.

· HTSI, FM however, we will continue to consider additional actions to address the industry’s challenges. Your support will help us perform under these difficult circumstances and reallocate investment funding where it’s needed most – in support of sustainable, long-term growth.

From the 2016 corporate prospectus comes the following two statements.

"The CEO and two other NEOs did not receive an increase in base salary in 2015. Messrs. Mahoney and Szlosek received merit increases of 3.5% and 5%, respectively, based on the Committee’s assessment of performance and competitive market positioning."

Mr. Mahoney's 2013 compensation was $7,137,453.

Mr. Mahoney's 2015 compensation was $9,527,196.

This thread also fails to mention that there have already been three, one week pay furloughs for U.S. Aerospace employees in 2016 (Engineering being exempt from two of those). That represents an approximately 6% "cut in pay".

Also, this thread fails to mention that all Aerospace employees endured a year-long furlough in 2008 representing an annualized 10% reduction in pay. After "the boom years" returned, none of this "taken" cash was returned to employees.

Yet, the corporation continues to report record profit margins, and record revenues.

In addition to Mr. Mahoney's "claim" and cliche regarding "head-winds", both Boeing and Airbus have a nine and one half year backlog of orders for commercial aircraft.

So, anyway, at the "top" of Honeywell, things are certainly booming.

Lastly, you can look this up yourself. In 2008, Mr. Mahoney's compensation was approximately $1,500,000. Thus, since 2008, Mr. Mahoney's compensation has increased times 6 (or 700%).

Eat my shorts, you measly workers!

I can't add to any of this! It's all very true. My relationship to this company will not be mentioned for job security reasons, but I have never seen a cheaper , more selfishly managed company!! They hitch about the infrastructure, yet will not allocate funds to fix these decrepit assed buildings. They'll think they're saving money when their roofs that they won't pay to fix , fall in on someone and kill them. What cheaper? Fix the roof or a 20 million wrongful death judgement? I've been there over a decade. I've been trying to get the hell out for 18 months. I will. These greedy jerks are setting themselves up for a huge fall. I agree with the one who came up with a company wide sick day idea! I'm doing it!

Great, I just got hired on and I start in a week right before this furlough. I'm a new college grad though, sounds like a bad place to get myself into but I need the money to save up to look for another job. Anyone think they'll layoff employees (or going after specific age groups)?

Hey guys, that are not happy with this Management Orders from Honeywell. My company is hiring people that have previous work experience. Prospective should have an active DoD Secret clearance.

Preferably, individuals should have 3 to 10 years of experience. But if you’re already a level 2 engineer at Honeywell then you qualify too.

There are many positions open. Some of these are Air Vehicle Engineering, Software Engineering, Survivability, Antenna Design and Integration, and Systems Engineering.

All of those interested and meet these requirements, please send your email to me. (oandresusa@gmail.com) I will then refer each interested individual to to my company hiring system. Also, feel free to email me with any questions. And feel free to share this information with any other laid off employee that you may know.

Honeywell expects its employees to be proud and excited to work for them as they squash you like an annoying knat. This place has gone completely downhill in recent years. I read a quote the other day that read..." Inept management will always make the workers believe it's their fault."

This is now Honeywell to a tee. They ignore all the talent they have and choose to treat everyone like scum.

Why is it the words "collective bargaining " keep ringing in my head? Is it because Honeywell management is so out of touch with its employees ... that we get no repsect ? its the only option left before they really take everying away. It is the only thing that might get managements attention .

Ditto to everything above. Every single person in our building would also say the same thing. Used to be a great place to work with a focus on the employee. Also used to have red blooded Americans at the top but Now the top resembles Nazi leadership with a bunch of tyrants just there to say yes and line their pockets with what used to be our normal benefits. Now they are going for our paychecks again ? Now there is an "inflection point" for you. House of Cards. Pull one or 2 more 30 year expert US technical folks out of the main x and we are done. Good job with the no hiring since 2000. Smart move

@-bjg: I second your thoughts, even though I worked a lot less years than you. Daily hell, eternal chase of the freaking "...charge number", the worst waste of time with the worst kind of support personnel (HR, IT, etc.) , services, working conditions, etc., and middle managers simply waiting for time to pass by to retire....

Honeywell has inept management that is running the company into the ground. I worked at Honeywell for 35 years. The last 10 years were hell on earth. Absolutely no respect or regard for employees. I celebrate every day I wake up and realize I'll never set foot in a Honeywell facility again.

If you could only see where the F35 auxiliary power/TMS is being assembled and tested you would think differently. Honeywell is littered with subcontract workers many with little to no engine assembly or test experience. These are the bozo's building and testing this junk. The manufacturing facility in Phoenix is an embarrassment. The lack of maintenance is a clear indication the future of the business is in jeopardy.

As an employee I thought Dave Cote was the devil incarnate. He has no regard for employees as long as he can line his own pockets and rub shoulders with the big name politicos. Now that I've retired and hold some stock, I've adopted a 100% selfish attitude and I love the guy. Of course, that love will be lost when he goes too far and the company loses its talent, but then I'll sell and walk.

Honeywell got as much of the F-35 work that it had proven products to support, and that is quite a lot of content. GE got shot down by European Anti-trust. For the rest of it, it is all about the 10%+ earnings per share promises that Cote makes to Wall Street. Mahoney and the rest of Cote's direct reports have no choice but to toe the line or leave. Much of the craziness started last year, and is now explained by Cote's hubris in trying to force a takeover of United Technologies by citing continued EPS growth despite flat sales numbers.

I agree with the rant except for the F-35 bit. https://aerospace.honeywell.com/en/products/auxiliary-power-and-thermal/power-and-thermal-management-system

What else is new? Under Dave Cote's leadership, employees are treated like roadkill, with Cote, Mahoney, and the rest of Honeywell's management running over employees and then backing up the truck to run them over again, and again, and again. Management has a reckless disregard for its most valuable asset (it's people) and how can Honeywell employees expect to to care about the company when Dave Côte is compensated to the tune of $58 million all the while he is making cost-cutting moves which cost 400 people there jobs last year in order to save $20 million. Whew, you want to hear a bad attitude? Ask any employee from Honeywell how it feels to work for Honeywell. You will get an earful. Dave Cote, Tim Mahoney ... I wouldn't give you a quarter for either of them. And how is it that Honeywell will not be making a single part for the huge contract (50 years) for the new F35? Somebody at the Pentagon has figured out that Honeywell has slipped past mediocrity and is now a very lousy aerospace manufacturing company. Immelt and the management team at General Electric are geniuses for choosing not to merge with Honeywell.
