Two stories in NYTimes today: productivity is at lowest percentage of GDP since the 50's (http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/04/29/upshot/why-is-productivity-so-weak-three-theories.html) and dismal GDP growth despite low unemployment (http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/04/29/business/economy/us-economy-gdp-q1-growth.html).
It doesn't take a genius to figure this out. Instead of investing in workers, companies are laying them off and skimming all the profits for shareholders and executives.
Skilled workers then become underemployed, doing stuff that doesn't utilize their talent or create value.
But I know of a lot of CEOs who are doing just fine...
