Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Economy a mess due to corporate greed

Two stories in NYTimes today: productivity is at lowest percentage of GDP since the 50's (http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/04/29/upshot/why-is-productivity-so-weak-three-theories.html) and dismal GDP growth despite low unemployment (http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/04/29/business/economy/us-economy-gdp-q1-growth.html).

It doesn't take a genius to figure this out. Instead of investing in workers, companies are laying them off and skimming all the profits for shareholders and executives.

Skilled workers then become underemployed, doing stuff that doesn't utilize their talent or create value.

But I know of a lot of CEOs who are doing just fine...

Speak for yourself, @H9s3fDq-akr. This is the problem with many people: They want someone else to take care of their stuff. I'm not setting idle, hoping someone would take care of my 401k. I check it weekly, keep abreast of financial news everyday, and I move my money around, depending on the situation. I've been making very good returns year after year. I don't just sit around and whine all the time, nor I leave my future on the hands of others. Keep your paranoia up, and hope for Social Security to still be around by the time you retire.

LOL....a 401K......good returns. What a joke. It's all a temporary illusion, part of the design. The Treasury Bond market selloff by foreign nations is accelerating, the Exchange Stabilization Fund (the 1933 off-book stolen American gold) is running dry and the Federal Reserve has like 6 trillion already invested. They will bring the market down, scapegoat some other country (probably Russia or China), all your retirement accounts will be transferred out of the Stock Market into lower risk U.S. Treasuries while the Federal reserve is selling into the buying and making money on the deal, and all the retirement funds will be left holding the bag (pennies on the dollar) with a stock market at 35%-40% of its current value.......all in a matter of months. The American people are going to be wiped clean with only pennies on the dollar......entire life savings evaporated and all done by meticulous central bank design. If you think you money is safe in anything electronic, you will be one of the countless victims. I hope you choke on it when it happens for being so ignorant for so long!

It is obvious that you have no clue on how the economy works. "Corporate greed". If you are referring to the drive to make money, damn right! I want corporation to want to make money. Why? Because I want a job. Because I have a 401k that invest in companies that need to make so I can get good returns. Because I want companies to make money so they can invest so they can be growth.

Many people's livelihoods, whether they work directly for a company or not, depend on that company making money. If a corporation such as Intel, or Google, or Apple, weren't greedy, they wouldn't have money to invest in growth, or to employ as many people as they do. And, all those small business depending on the paychecks of those corporate employees, wouldn't exists.

Some people want to equate Corporate greed with the real definition of greed. But, greedy people accumulate wealth, either illegally, or they don't contribute positively to the community and the country.

Money velocity is at a 40-year low and the employment:population ratio is at a 40-year low. The system will be gone soon and replaced with another. Hopefully the next one will not be run by the banking cartels.
