Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

BK and Murthy are making Intel great again by laying off those not adding to the bottom line

BK and Murthy are doing the right thing by giving everyone a kick in the behind to get this place going.

The perception everyone has on the outside, i.e. leader in silicon tech and know how with no competition what so ever in the PC space is very different to reality, i.e. night and day.

First thing that jumped at me was the two in a box concept which is a waste of money and causes more confusion. Second is the ice melting pace of making decisions. It is amazing that it takes more than two people to approve anything, no, it requires 5-10+ as everyone wants to feel important.

There were many so call experience employees that did not seem to do much, i.e. they could be fired and there would be no impact what so ever in the project.

The politics are worst than the government, this place is really fu*c up if you ask me, until today it amazes me how it functions at all.

There are some smart people but they are outnumber by not so smart, useless, political kind which are unfortunately the core of the issues at Intel.

Therefore I encourage BK and Murthy to keep laying off useless people (easily layoff another 10-20K) at Intel if there is going to be any chance for Intel to make it.

  1. Very correct observations.

  2. The "political" non-performers will stay.

  3. Current process will make the good nin-political guys leave.

  4. Current process will eventually kill Intel mobile part (50% today).

  5. Intel will become a server company.

OP is only partially right. The cuts this week in my department seem arbitrary. Some low performers got cut, but just as many really valuable & productive people got cut, too. There are now big gaps in our workforce with no qualified people to fill them.

Wow... I agree with most recent, you shift roles and spend time training and a stock level 4 is given doesn't mean you weren't a good/ hard worker...

Now labeled a poor performer when all you were doing is broadening your scope to move towards other jobs. These jobs required that.

Doesn't each manager have to give a sl4 or 5? By "ranking" so you may have a great team but this year you missed 1 more day due to a sick kid and now ISP.

Sad.. BK is ruining Intel.

Most of us can understand the necessity to trim the workforce. The issue is how deceptively it was done. Instead of active performance management by the managers (identifying poor performers, giving them warning and a fair chance to correct themselves, then firing them if they don't perform), they made the cutoff the stock level which was given to people for lots of reasons other than poor performance. People who changed teams to do something new and interesting, people who went took FMLA, sabbatical etc and older employees. It is worse because they are labelled as poor performers and now have to explain themselves in next interviews as this is so highly publicized. There are terrible mid level managers at Intel who cost the company millions of dollars in salary and millions of dollars in lost productivity who have managed to keep their jobs and continue to drain the company. What is it that company gained now by ISPs? People who had to leave are still here and people who contributed to the company are gone.

I don't know why people are bitching so badly here. No company can guarantee you a job for life. If you want that, go get a union or government job.

As far as I'm concerned, Intel is generous enough with their ISP or VSP packages. If you think you're so important and Intel made a mistake in terminating you, then you should have no problem getting a job at another firm.
