Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Are folks here for real?

Some of the vitriolic posts here are something to behold.

Dead wood?

Inbred friends and family who remain?

Seriously some of you folks need to start behaving like decent human beings.

The shoe may be on the other foot next week, month, quarter, year, etc.

What values, @2yfu? This company does not value anyone.

There is no doubt that some 'Deadwood" is protected and promoted within Chevron because of family and friends, but the vast majority of employees are simply hard working professionals, doing the job they are paid to do. I am one of the latter, and I do not know if I am in, or out of scope, but no matter what, I am proud that I have been a Chevron employee for 28 years, and if necessary, I will say "Welcome to Walmart" while remembering the values that I learned from this great company.

Yes, I agree the squealers are usually the ones in line to be cut. Also, the employee talking about a sweet package is right on target. My brother just got laid off from an engineering firm after 11.5 years and he got 2 weeks pay and out the door. Bam! That's standard across the board he says. Entitled brats is correct. Good luck and I hope you are not the next one!!

We know of large business units such as CBRES, ITC and ETC that employee hundreds of arrogant, inbred, obese, SOBs that are millionaires from years of playing the Chevron game -- I'll rate you a 1 if you rate my brother-in-law a 2+. I fully believe, like cockroaches, they will survive these waves of cuts as well.

Very few are brave enough to challenge the system.

Hey, "Dead Wood", go find yourself a woman. That would be a more productive use of your time (and ours).

I would like to thank the OP for making a post of the nature that brings out the petulant DEAD WOOD that desperately needs to be cut from the mighty Chevron Tree to keep it from falling down due to dead weight. If you are truly useless dead wood that needs to be cut and will not survive on your own in the real world, you will squeal like an entitled brat and make vile comments about how bad/bigoted/corrupt/unfair/poorly managed/etc Chevron is. If you are a valuable employee and know that you will also be valuable wherever you go even if you get the super sweet severance pkg./6 months paid Cobra ins gift/+2 more months pay generous gift/vaca/pension/etc. that very few in the industry get, these types of comments don't bother you.

#FTARFE1-AAF you need to can your obnoxious and nasty attitude. Keep your vile opinions to yourself. Who the hell are you to be so nasty to others. Experience has proven than when someone is a jackass like you, that is because they have not been able to fit in so then such disgusting behavior is demonstrated. You clearly are not, never have been AND never will be a part of Chevron because we are far better than you and the likes of you.

Great post #GOLD

The majority of the posts on this site are real, my friend. Some are written more eloquently than others, but the messages and responses show the worry and desperation a lot of the folks have. It's not easy to have given most of your working life to a company and are now comfortable with your job, the company culture and are at an age where to start over elsewhere is really difficult. We are in a global downturn and the markets are in a tailspin. Getting a job after 50 years of age in this economy is scary enough, especially when you have a mortgage, bills to pay, kids to feed and school. For men, especially, being the "provider" for the family makes these trying times an extra burden. It's hard to get a good nights sleep for a long time now.

I can surely understand the emotions at play.

I was previously a ~ 30 year employee of CVX who fell to the axe in '14. Believe me I felt the fear, self-doubt, failure too.

However....

A different/bigger/better role opened at another operator. I got it. This was on the back of my experience gained at CVX plus not being a complete and utter a-hole. However, things may change again for me. This time the emotions will be less - I hope!

Regardless I have had the opportunity to work either many good people at CVX and elsewhere. The majority have behaved in a good way ( based upon my own belief system).

Life will go on regardless. Do not waste your energy on negatives. Change will likely be outwith your control so focus on the next step. Don't look back in anger.

Yes. This attitude shows the true 'Chevron Way'

Truth is, if you frequent this site, you are likely worried about your job; ergo, by your very own definition, you are deadwood yourself.

Conversely, if you aren't 'deadwood' you would be working hard trying to impress your bosses, not coming here to fight and call others names.

Again, it only shows the kind of people that work at Chevron.
