Thread regarding VMware Inc. layoffs

The real culprit is Jonathan Chadwick

Since he joined VMware we are lowering the guidance and then beating the same and patting our backs for that. Even this was achieved with dubious means. Please read this

And Pat will spend thousands of $ on those stupid EPIC values cards. My advice to him first start with your executive team, instill some moral value in them. Every time engineers are made scape goat i never saw anybody in the upper management being penalized. This is certainly not the company i joined 8 years back. Unless this rot is not cleaned we wont succeed.

Dear VMwhere,

EPIC values? More like EPIC fail.

You show me VMware swag and I'll show you landfill.

Oh and Pat, Karma is a bitch.

I regret to announce that Jonathan Chadwick, COO and CFO, has decided to leave VMware. Jonathan has made a personal decision to transition from a day-to-day operational executive to a strategic advisor. In particular, he plans to work with a number of companies as a non-executive board member. Jonathan has been a tremendous partner and well-respected leader at VMware for the past three years. Please join me in wishing Jonathan success as he moves to the next stage of his personal and professional journey.

This is why John Doerr, one of the most successful VCs in the valley, has said that he won't invest in these old school tech companies (he named EMC and Dell, but you could add VMware). They haven't invented anything significant for the industry in 15-20 years, other than to come up with accounting gimmicks. Hard to argue with him.

Wonder just why people still stick on to a company where people are just pawns in the grand scheme of things? Why would you want to stick on to a place where you don't know if next year it's be your turn to be a statistic?

Many companies are cooking books by throwing all what they can into the 'Cloud' bucket (link to Fortune magazine article is below)...

...Microsoft, Oracle, SAP have a lot riding on cloud revenue dollars with regard to market valuation and general expectations so they make those numbers look as great as possible.

For example check out this:

...(Microsoft) reported $5.9 billion in “Intelligent Cloud” revenue but that category includes such huge money-makers as Windows Server and Exchange Server, which don’t necessarily run in any cloud.
