Thread regarding Noble Energy Inc. layoffs

Noble Spouses

I know I'm not the only spouse/significant other of a Noble employee that's been freaking out all day (and maybe checking this site every few minutes). If anyone needs to chat, I'm here. I know we all want to think our spouses are too good to be let go, but we need to stay positive no matter what. It's okay to panic and freak out for a few minutes, but don't let it control you, and don't let it last too long. We get through it by staying calm, and eventually moving on.

I feel for you, Anonymous197510. Being laid off and having the financial rug pulled out from under you feels terrible. I've been there. While waiting to get another job, I cut my expenses by looking at everything and only keeping the "needs" and not the "wants" in my budget. I said "goodbye" to cable, the alarm system, eating out, clothes shopping, etc. Then, I started selling on eBay. I had so much stuff that I was happy to get rid of and make some money, too. I worked part-time in a friend's store where I found people in worse shape financially than I was due to divorces, health issues, job losses, and so on. When I started working again, I added the alarm system back and I do eat out once in a while. Things will get better. Use your ingenuity now to pull through this time. And, for Christmas, you might ask friends or other laid off employee's wives if they would like to trade toys. Your children will get "new" toys that they have not seen before, but it won't cost you anything.

This is ridiculous , your spouse is healthy and we are not in a depression. Life sucks at times but it could always be worse much worse. Noble has been holding you back your from your success!!!

Need to vent too.... My husband is a damn good worker and he went above and beyond for work-- our son was born two weeks early and he left me the next morning, in the hospital two states away to attend a class he was signed up for so his boss didn't have to worry about rescheduling. He has worked weekends and holidays and never said no to work. Yet, he was the one chosen to get the axe. We are heartbroken. The what if has always been there but nothing prepares you for your three year old grabbing the Toys R Us Christmas catalog and talking about what he is going to ask Santa for and you are sitting there, holding back tears thinking you will be wrapping up things you already have to put under the tree this year and he probably won't be getting the power wheels we promised because we will have to prepare for possible long term unemployment.

Let's all keep praying. Trust God despite the circumstances, He closes doors to open better ones. Let's be strong for our spouses. May God Bless us and our families!

I'm a spouse and an ex employee so I have many friends and loved ones that work for Noble. Im terrified my dh will lose his job. It will destroy us. I'm so disappointed that Noble would do this. I used to love and defend the company. Now they are just a bunch of greedy corporate aholes. They could have put a hiring freeze on and let attrition take care of the problem. But nope, they are going to destroy lives instead.

Yes, this is just another one of life's curve balls. We are getting married in three weeks & the hammer just fell for my fiancee.

I've been on this site all day, checking it for updates constantly between my job duties. It's a scary time. I just want this day to end with my better half still employed.
